someone might have already mentioned this: the traditional LP toggle switch has a really simple explanation, but you need to be a Hetfield geek or at least an Iron Cross geek to know... This Snow White version is a white version of the black Iron Cross, which was massively limited at 100 pieces only. That black ESP Iron Cross was modelled after James' modified '73 Les Paul Custom. So you see how it's coming along now... let's put it this way - James' had a 73 Les Paul custom modified, apart from the iron cross and racing stripes, he also moved the toggle switch to the lower position which is probably because he played Explorers for the longest time and that's where the toggle switch usually is. But obviously on that original 73 Les Paul Custom he left the original toggle switch un-touched. And hence that first Gibson modded Iron Cross had two toggle switches, and then the black ESP Iron Cross was modelled off the original Gibson one, and this white one is a new colour of the same 'design'. Make sense!!? :-)

i know i'm late to the party, but i'm a huge metallica fan so i'm gonna learn ya something lol. the original iron cross was actually a '73 gibson les paul custom that james hetfield further customized himself (he plays this guitar in the st. anger rehearsals dvd). i guess he liked the placement of the pickup switch on the explorers he was always playing, so he tied the volume knobs together and replaced one of the knobs with a new pickup switch. he left the original switch there, possibly so there wouldn't be a hole, or maybe just for the classic les paul look. whether he approached esp or they approached him, i don't know, but they remade that guitar as a near exact replica of his black and gold gibson, even relicing it to look almost identical. the white iron cross came later, as a more modern version of the same guitar and with his custom pickups, as his '73 and original iron cross did not have them.

I have played the LTD Iron Cross. Now I will say it's a brilliant guitar, touching on the same issues as Chappers here. String gauge out of the box is WAY too light. I was at first confused with the switch configuration. I also noticed it seems to be a trend that the Iron Cross is on the wrong way round too, only very slightly picky things there. But, in all, a brilliant guitar. Super comfortable to play, as it fits your waist and hugs you. The EMG Het Set really delivers, hitting those high's so much more than the 81-60 combo played by James on some of his other guitars. Cost is a pain, BUT a brilliant guitar. Shame about the price though, I will be sticking with Chibsons.
