Ultimately it is your channel and you decide about content... but if it goes 110% marketing and -10% "video" (I know that such combination of % is fictitous) then I and others who have been around from the start might leave. What was appealing, in the past, was that you addressed certain topics that were hard to find otherwise and you did the videos in a rather straightforward way. They were not rushed but purposeful and your delivery and personality were key selling points. Speaking of marketing: how are you applying your knowledge about marketing to this channel? Maybe we will find out? And James: when I wrote my comment I was thinking about your video about writing epic comments on other people's YT videos. I hope that my comment can be seen as at least partly epic. Tell what you appreciated specifically and ask a question or two that can be rather quickly answered.....or something like that.

Joe, this was assuredly an epic comment, and I appreciate you taking the time to write it! "Marketing" sometimes has a slimy connotation due to the way people have used and abused it over the decades, but I *hope* what you'll find is that I'm still talking about interesting topics in a practical and straightforward and purposeful way, just like I always have! In a lot of ways, this channel is my reaction *against* a lot of the junky marketing content out there, not a contribution to it. As far as how I'm marketing this channel, I'm actually planning to put myself through the exact same process I'll be describing in more detail, so there'll be more on that in the future as well. I'm genuinely grateful for your interest and engagement in the videos I've done in the past, and it's my hope and intention that in a year you look back and think of this channel as having greatly improved instead of declined. And I ask that you let me know either way. Thanks again!

@@RealJamesArcher thanks for your reply. I think I understand where you are coming from and different areas of expertise and skills certainly overlap in some cases. Instead of saying that a channel improves or declines (you wrote you hoped that a year from now I would look back and not see a decline... ) perhaps you could think instead of it moving laterally? Epic comment. Also quality is a slippery subject as well. There is the 1) production value 2) the alignment of the content with what the viewers want or need or have come to expect 3) the packaging of the content within the production and other factors like pacing, presenter personality..add to the list. Oops sounds like I am into marketing as well 🤪 I think what will keep me is if number two stays enough in alignment and in the process I learn some new things ... alternatively if the content jogs my mind and I get an epiphany or a reminder about something that I knew once but have forgotten. Btw I commented on another channel that I follow where there was a presentation about how "creators" should read and react to comments. So my comment there was a link to your video about how to write epic comments. Your and his videos are very different but at the same time the two videos are sort of like mirror images of each other. Enough about epic today.

@@joestrahl6980 that's a very good point! Sometimes alignment is alignment, and just like there are really great knitting channels out there that I don't follow, not everyone is going to be invested in what I'm doing here. I'm hoping that the principles are broadly applicable, though, and that there will be something here that can help everyone. We'll see what happens, though!
