So many venues are closed right around the world - clubs, theatres, concert halls... and one of my favourites is just down the road from where I’m sitting in isolation, the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre in Mount Gambier, South Australia. I was lucky enough to be able to get in there the other day, just for a few minutes to play in a big room again...of course with no audience...well, not in the room anyway.
What to play when you only have time for one song? A jazz standard? (I always like them) a blues? (that’s appropriate at the moment) something funky?
With all of us affected by the same thing, all dealing with the effects on our lives, I feel like we have a special kind of unity at the moment, a one-ness that often eludes us in our normal lives, an inclusiveness that seems to have made us all pause to consider everyone else, I feel like there’s a song that captures this feeling for Australians...
I trust we’ll all be back hearing live music soon, until then I hope you enjoy this short rendition of an Aussie classic.
