I think it's less of "nominated," and more of, sign the list if you have any Hispanic ancestry and you are on TV. It was a ton of "nominees!"

LOL Martin Sheen's real name is Ramon Antonio Gerard Estevez - he used his stage name to get more jobs back in the day. He is half Irish and half Galician. Martin's wife Janet Elizabeth Templeton is the mother of all of Martin Sheen's kids. Emilio decided to use his birth name to act and Charlie (Carlos) decided to ride on the coat-tails of his father.

Usually Hispanic peoples in both Spain and Latin America usually recycle names. So if there is a grandfather named Carlos and and uncle named Ramon and a grandmother named Carmen, then one might name their children Carlos, Ramon and Carmen. My family does the same. The Estevez' probably followed the same Hispanic culture name patterns.

Latino just means "Latin" in Spanish. I am a Spanish-American (my family is from Canary Islands, Spain) and I speak Spanish. Latin America gets it's name from the Latin Europeans, or the original Latinos. The people in Latin America say Latino because it's short for Latinoamericano. But there is also a Latinoeuropeo too. This is a new fad calling people Latinos in Spain, traditionally Latinos were Latin Europeans.

@zanesimon1-- sorry, but you have that all wrong. Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez are full brothers of Martin Sheen, real name Ramon Estevez. He started using that stage name early in his career because he was told using his real name would cost him acting roles. Charlie's real name is Carlos Estevez; he chose to change his name while Emilio did not. Thanks :)

I never noticed the way I worded it could be interpreted as them all being brothers. Oops. LoL But, the poster I replied to said that Charlie and Emilio have different dads because their last names are different.

Actually gringo means American, it's just that historically, whites have been the majority of Americans, so it kinda was used sometimes to refer to whites from the U.S. But some countries in Latin America call all Americans "gringos" whether white, black or whatever. Some use it to refer to whites, some use it to refer to blond whites and not brunette whites. It differs among countries in Latin America. In Spain and Argentina it refers to blond haired whites, but not brunette whites.

Charlie sheen is the son of Martin Sheen and a woman of Spanish decent. Emilio Estavez is the son of the same woman but a different father. Hence Emilio Estavez and Charlie Sheen are half brothers.

Cool. I live in Madrid. In my diplomacy class taught by the woman who ran the diplomacy school in Madrid taught us that politically. Iberian means Spain & Portugal, Ibero-American Are Spanish & Portuguese speaking American countries. Hispanic are Spanish speaking countries. Yes, "Latin" or "Romantic" would mean Spanish (Castellano, Gallego, Valenciano, Catalan), Portuguese, Italian, French, & Romanian. But no, Latin & Latino is for the Americans.

Actually that is correct. Latino (as used like in the U.S. which means Latinoamericano) should be from Latin America. These U.S. born people of Latin American descent are not Latin Americans, but are North Americans. Their grandparents or parents may be Latinos, because they are from Latin America, but those born in the U.S. are not from Latin America.

I'm sure if I called a Spanish person in Spain Latino they would be offended. They're Spanish. Then they're European. Latino refers to people who speak Latin based languages in the "New World" - so yeah that includes the Quebecua and the Hatians but not Guyana or Suriname...or any English speaking Caribbean island. Hispanic came about because of the Hispano-Iberian Peninsula and when Portuguese was just an off shoot of Spanish. In face, Galician sounds a heck of a lot like Porugese.

Latino came from Europe, so how is Sheen not Latino? You mean Sheen is not Latinoamericano right? You should know this if you are Latino. Latin America was named after the Latins who came from Europe. Sheen is Spanish, whom are Latinos (Latinoeuropeos), but not Latinoamericano....smh.

I've never heard a Madrileño refer to themselves as Latino. Or even an American person here refer to themselves at Latino. Normally they just state their nationality. I think it's more of a thing if you're in the USA.

See my previous comment. Also, Hispanic is not a race. In the U.S., Hispanic seems to be used for the "brown" type Spanish speakers. In Spain and Latin America, the concept of a "Hispanic race" does not exist, because Hispanic is not a race. The brown types that people in the U.S. call "Hispanic" are called mestizo in Latin America and Spain. Mestizos are mixed race people of Native American and white (European). Most Hispanics in the U.S. are mestizo. But there are white Hispanics also.
