Janet Baker was a great artist with a most beautiful voice and a long, distinguished career that I wish could have gone on forever...

Wonderful Janet Baker who gives an interpretation that finds its meaning, if not its significance. A musicality which makes Mahler's music spring up in a lively, invisible, intangible way as an ontological horizon which is constantly pushed back by a rare musical experience (which seems "natural"). Thank you to Gil Piotr for this wonderful video !

Superb. Fortunate to have heard Janet Baker perform this in Carnegie Hall in the late 80's with James Conlon conducting.

What I wouldn't have given to be there. This piece has a deep personal meaning, as I'm sure it does for many. And then we have the astonishing Janet Baker. Thank you for posting.

Dame Baker´s performance is remarkable. Maybe Maureen Forrester, Herman Prey, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau algo get to such paramount. LIED is LIED, not plain vanilla opera.. Greatness of human voice.
