It’s a shame how the media did her after the super bowl thing. And the fact people still continue to underrate her iconic catalog due to her late brother. She proved she can be as legendary as him. And she’s still one of my favorite singers and one of the most underrated too. My Ranking 1. Rhythm Nation 2. Janet 3. Velvet Rope 4. Control 5. All For You 6. Unbreakable 7. Damita Jo 8. Rhythm Nation 1814 is clearly Janet’s best album and quite possibly one of the 5 greatest albums ever made. Every single song on Rhythm Nation was incredible. It’s not only her best work, but Jam and Lewis best work as well. This album stayed in rotation for two years and every song released charted high and every video was amazing! Easily one of my favorite albums of all time and one of my 5 favorite Non Rap albums of all time, maybe top 3. Great list. I agreed with the entire list, I go back and forth between Control and Janet for number 2, but either way is correct. I usually go with control because my favorite Janet song “When I Think Of You” is on it.

Jermaine Dupri wanted Janet Jackson & Mariah Carey to do a song together for the 20 Y.O. album. In June 2006 Jermaine Dupri said "It's gonna happen on this record, please believe that. I got a mean idea, so look for it. We definitely gonna do a repackage on [Janet Jackon's 20 Years Old album] once it comes out. Hopefully it's successful and people buy into it, then I'm going back in the studio. What happened was, when I was working with Janet, I got into the zone. This was my first time ever working with her. When I get into my zone with artists, I just want to create and create and create. That's what happened with me and Mariah [on The Emancipation Of Mimi]. We don't run outta ideas; we keep coming up with shit. The closer I get to that idea [for Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey], the more I know where it should be at. It's feeling like it's gonna happen." Jermaine Dupri also said that if he pulls it off then the Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey record could appear on the initial run of the 20 Years Old album and that he hopes to have the Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey duet mapped out and recorded before Mariah Carey went on tour that summer. "It depends on how quick my mind moves, we're mixing records for [20 Years Old]. We're not done yet. When I did Usher's My Way album, the last record I created was You Make Me Wanna....I'm thinking I might go back in, and I might tamper with it....We gotta try to figure it out."

I think janet’s a&m recordings had her best vocals, and her most ambitious concepts with ‘control’ and rhythm nation’ alone. whether it was the albums or visuals. she became increasingly raunchy afterwards and I lost interest.. her debut album had some nice songs, despite it not being as memorable. I don’t think it deserved to be ranked at the bottom. my favourite is ‘control’.

Velvet Rope is her very best album if one had to be that. Followed by Rhythm Nation and Control followed by Janet. Except for her first two albums all her albums are musically brilliant. You’re judging hype and numbers here not really music. Discipline are you kidding? FEEDBACK is arguably her best song. And ENJOY on 20Y is her most underrated song that should’ve been a classic. Damita Jo features ISLAND LIFE another exceptionally underrated masterpiece. And Unbreakable features BURNITUP, NIGHT…killer records. You’re missing out on some of her very best songs that got overshadowed by her tabloid persona and the too many interludes. Outside of the first two albums it’s practically impossible to rank her albums.

When the list started off with "Janet Jackson", I stopped watching. This album wasn't her worst by far, that was definitely "Dream Street" respectfully. Her first album was actually closer to the level of the rest of her work. "Young Love" and many others on this were SUPER well produced and written. "Dream Street" was far less on this front. Production value just wasn't there, and the sounds didn't age well. Couldn't respect this list with that position alone.

I would argue that control is Janet’s best album because had that not been the monster success it was and classic that it is we not have gotten the album’s that followed and she would not be the icon that she is.

but we have to compare the music to the music, the impact and legacy are important too though for sure

@@CulturalistTheory I would say that was the definitive ranking for his albums. His top 3 is always debatable, but those were exactly how I would rank them. Cold Day in Hell is agreed as his best mixtape.

Why not mention of Janet Jackson being black listed. She literally was. Saying that you won’t say they had it out for her is a lie. Les Moonves was noted as having it out for her from the Super Bowl on. He had hands on MTV, VH1, BET and radio stations. Janet was literally shunned.

She had to fight too hard to get back to where she should've been all along for sure
