Kim, excellent review. I'm looking forward in you giving this baby a spin in upcoming videos. I'm so curious about Janome but it's difficult finding enough in-depth videos. Excellent start!

Hi Kim! I've just finished looking at all your videos on the 9400. What a wonderful machine. My local quilt shop will be showing me the features of the S7 and the 9400. I got a quick overview with them the other night. They told me the S7 is pretty much the same machine functionally as the 9400. Aside from throat space, needle plates, extra lighting, and stitches... do you know if there any major differences? I did go to the Janome site and do the comparison. I'm so tempted with the 9400, but it's a lot more expensive.

Hi Meari: I'm not really familiar with the S7 so I won't be able to help much in that area, but... there is a new machine, the Janome MC9450 that has just been released which is similar to the 9400 but with some additional features. Since this machine is coming out, I would expect that the 9400 should be available at a better price as the stores will probably want to clear this stock to bring in the newer model. Also, I just saw a post by Janome Canada today advertising holiday sales. If you're not in a big hurry to get a machine, I would suggest that you wait just a few more weeks - still doing your research - and see if you might be able to get a better deal on either machine. Just my thoughts. Also, be sure that you know what exactly you will be doing with your new machine and what features you MUST have (as opposed to would like to have). Good luck with your decision and let me know how it goes.

Hi Jessica: Thanks for watching. I am still enjoying stitching on the Janome MC9400, especially since I've added the upgrade to it so I can now easily use rulers when quilting with it. As a quilter, it has everything I want in a sewing machine. I know that know that you will definitely enjoy playing with this machine.

My embroidery thread frequently brakes (40wt) what is the best setting I have a Janome MC 150000 lightweight fabric linen please give me an idea what my tension settings should be.
@Chatterboxquilts

You may need to adjust your top tension to be a bit less. You also should use a needle appropriate for the type of thread and the fabric you are using. Your's owner's manual should have a diagram with an explanation of needle sizes for fabric weights. You might also want to try a top stitch needle.

Kim, I just got my 9400, and love it! Question - I mainly piece quilts, is there a way you can set up the machine at 1/4 " seam when you first turn on your machine? It seems there are a lot of steps to get to the 1/4" setting. Thanks for your help!

Page 99 in the manual for the 9400 describes "resume mode",the option you want. I was elated when I learned that. My dealer had a class and was so much better than the manual. Good luck!

Chatterboxquilts I can't seem to figure out how use a large cone of thread, and I can't get the monogram to work without it eating the fabric lol

Hi Sissy: You'll need to use a separate spool holder or order one that can be attached to the Janome 9400 (I have one for my 8900 and use it all the time). The part number for one of these for the 9400 is 859429016. I would ask your local dealer to order one for you if they don't have one in stock. I haven't gotten into monogramming - yet - but I know that you'll need to use a stabilizer behind your fabric to do this, as you would when using satin stitches on the machine. The fabric just isn't heavy enough to run these close stitches without some extra support. I like to use a tear away stabilizer. You can also check with your local Janome dealer about this. I would think that adding some stabilizer should help your situation. Let me know how it goes. :)

What do you prefer more the 9400 or the 8900
@Chatterboxquilts
6 жыл бұрын
Oh, Amy, that's a tough question. Both are good machines: the 9400 has a few more options than the 8900, such as improved lighting, the HP industrial needle plate and 1/4" foot, a more user-friendly (in my opinion) display screen. It also has the automatic presser foot lifter. A good way to compare them is to go to the Janome website and look at them both side by side. You can do this by going to www.janome.com/machines/sewing/9400/ and clicking on "Compare" in the menu and then choosing the 8900. You can see a side by side comparison that might help you out. Good luck with your choice -either will be great!

@@Chatterboxquilts Don't know if I am allowed to do this, but I just bought one in AL for $2743. out the door with all the stuff. Go to one of the little project seminars you can sign up for & actually stitch on the machines. On break many of us traded our machines to try out another. It was a very educational experience & gave me a lot more confidence in purchasing my machine. Had no plans on buying anything & made a purely impulse buy cause I thought it was a great deal.

J Ted and Linda Simpson Thanks folks! Of course you can tell prices! Do you know "pattern review" website? Listing price is part of machine reviews. You might not want to tell your bff the price you paid if she just said she paid twice as much, but other than that . . . Don't be intimidated into letting your fellow sewists get cheated. Hope your dealer has lots of machines in stock, he/she will be inundated with sales tomorrow! See, you have made many people happy and your dealer richer.🙋
