I'm so glad to have found you on KZitem! I'm new to the planner internet world, but I have used some form of a planner ever since I learn what a calendar was. I'm in the same TN but brown my first leather and I just cut down my first stalogy yesterday. I'm excited about all the pages! I've been in a diy standard TN since September and I can only fit a month in each insert with a day on one page. Daksina is one of my favorite planner girls and now I have you! I love you monthly start pages ideas are flowing in my brain and if you do a canva how to I'll be watching!! I'm gleaning ideas for how I want to set up my pages for February. Thanks for sharing can't wait to see more from you!

I think you just solved my dilemma (which I had given up on). I like the TN size but can’t do the inserts that a) won’t lay flat and b) have too few pages. Cutting down a stalogy is brilliant. Now, if only I had seen this in say, November, prior purchasing my Hobo Cousin and Weeks....but I *could* just try it out and make some ‘practice’ spreads to see how I might use it next year (ha - we all know how that will end up :)). Thanks for another super informative video!

So glad to see the new video and what you’re doing now. Having watched all of your vids (multiple times if I’m being honest), one of the biggest things I get from them is how you think about your planner and it’s layout as a tool to help you get through the day and get all the stuff done. Like seeing you put a small month calendar on a page when you’re laying it out, I can tell you’re thinking about how when you’re using the page to do the stuff, it would eliminate some flipping and looking around if you had that small calendar there. Which leads me to think ‘hey, is there a place in my planner where I need info that isn’t on that page so the page would be better at helping me do the stuff’. Which is my long-winded way of asking if you’ve seen a significant change in your process in the last year with all that has changed? Thanks for sharing your planner and making a video!

What an incredibly kind comment! Thank you so much!! I do try to make my planner work with as little effort on my part as possible, because It works for Me, I don’t work for It. 😊 Things like those little places to put a small monthly calendar so I don’t have to flip back to the large monthly layout constantly when I’m working on tasks and goals. Or making sure I can put information into it and take information out of it with very little thought in my part. My system hasn’t really changed a whole lot this past year. The *contents* have changed, but the system hasn’t. The biggest content change has been the need to include logical places for remote learning info and schedules.

I love how you personalized the bound book that has the basic layouts so it’s not as daunting as a completely blank notebook to start with. It’s exactly how I envision doing my Hobos. Question: I see you printed printables on Tomoe River and glued in but what about the vellum? What method do you use for tip-ins? I’m a bit new to your channel but I’ll keep browsing in case you already have a tutorial on that. Meantime, keep doing your planner thing, I commend you for sharing this while being a mommy to boys, and congrats on the college graduate! Motherhood gets a lot of criticism at times but it is truly central to a sound society. Blessings to you always. Theresa 🌺

Your planner is SO GORGEOUS!! Love it! I couldn’t stop starting at your Micron pen.. Ryder Carroll used a Micron 008 to autograph his book for me... He told me it was the SAME pen he used to write the dedication to his parents in the book... I finally found the Microns the other day and bought a pack of the 008. Is this pen new to you?

That’s such a cool story!! I had a random Micron a few years ago, but I grabbed this “variety pack” specifically for the one with the super-narrow nib to write with and the slightly thicker nibs to lay out my setups. So far, I’m really enjoying them!

With a cut-down A5 stalogy, what size do you print for inserts/images like the yearly calendar? Is it a TN size? I've onky used stalogy notebooks but I plan to make an A5 setup like this for work notes but I've never used a TN. The full A5 size with cover gets heavy to carry around so I think this will be a good in-between. Just not sure about paper size when I need to print and insert something. ❤️❤️❤️Love this video!

Welcome!! I’m so happy you’ve found this video, and I hope it helps! I print Standard TN size to put into my cut-down A5 Stalogy. If you’re looking on Etsy, searching “Standard TN” should give you a pile of results. Some shops also call that size “Narrow” TN, so that should bring more choices too.

Yes, one of the older boys graduated last spring with a mathematics degree, and he’s headed to grad school next fall. It felt so strange to not have a ceremony or party or anything for him! Another one of the older boys graduated from high school last spring as well. I guess we’re going to have to have one big “celebrate-it-all” party when the world opens up again!

I’ve never cut anything down before. Do you have someone do it for you (like at a Staples?). How do you accomplish this with clean edges?
@CarieHarling
3 жыл бұрын
I cut this down myself, but I know people have taken their notebooks to both Staples and Office Max to be cut down too. I measured really carefully and made sure to use a brand new blade to cut. An emery board works wonders for any rough spots too. 😊

Another tip is to make many light handed passes with that new blade. Our instinct with a thicker book like a stalogy is to apply a look of pressure with the blade, but that extra pressure actually causes the book to shift quite often and is counter productive. 🙂

So you mainly print things out and glue them in...Why spend so much on a Stalogy notebook then? By the time you pay for the notebook, the cover and all your downloads this is has to be the most expensive way to plan ever. Not to mention, how do you have the time to fuss with this so much? I don’t have the number of kids you do but I work a lot and I don’t have the time to print, cut, decorate and glue in everything. I think your planners are gorgeous but not very realistic for most people
@CarieHarling
3 жыл бұрын
It depends... when I don’t feel like drawing it out I glue things in. In my day-to-day use, most of my weeks I hand draw, and some of the months. The rest is all handwritten. For me, personally, I want the option to do whatever my brain needs at the time. If I’m using a ringed planner, for example, it takes me *far* more time (and money) to print, cut, and decorate. This is seriously the least-fussy-way I plan. And just because it works for me doesn’t mean it will work for anyone else, not at all. I firmly believe we each need to do what works for us as individuals.
@Daksina

Everyone has free time in their lives (to watch KZitem videos of other people's planners, for example), and some of us choose to spend it on making our planners look and feel nice. Also, a $20 notebook with a few printables is hardly going to break the bank. The beauty of this kind of notebook is that it can be personalised to fit our needs. Carie is just sharing her ideas and setup which MANY of us find inspiring. No one is required to do the same as her. Take what is useful/helpful and move on.
@outinarizona

for me, printables and sticker paper are easiest for decor and for putting in year calendars, month calendars. once you have it, you have it for life, especially if the printable file is editable year to year. a lot of them are. I'd rather not waste time writing years and months over and over. weeks and days are hand drawn and worked out as needed as how you use it tends to change every couple of months.
