Listen closely, and you can hear the crystals "clink"! Every January, the museum closes for inventory, cleaning, and assessing the needs of the historic buildings, garden, and collection. Almost all the staff mobilizes to cover the house from top to bottom in what can sometimes seem like the shortest month of the year. In this short clip, Visitor Services Manager Elizabeth Killian cleans and shines the Parlour's 1914 Belgian-made chandelier with distilled water and hyper-absorbent cloths. Custom-made for Armistead Peter, Jr., the estate's third owner, the electrified fixture was designed for the newly wired mansion, its design based on a pre-electric fixture original to the house. That earlier fixture was later rewired and now hangs in the Dining Room.
