**There was no Book of the Month for January as that honor would've gone to Anna Karenina, which I have yet to finish, and might have created a situation where the same book is BoTM two months running.
***I said Paul Léautaud was a contemporary of the Goncourt brothers. This was an error; his book does mention them, but it's recollections of them from those who knew them.
