Janusz Korczak (1878 - 1942) was a doctor, writer, educator, philosopher, children's rights advocate who gave his life for his children. His books have been translated into 20 languages. He gave up his successful medical practice to become the director of an orphanage for Jewish children. Though he was given several opportunities to escape the Warsaw ghetto, he insisted on staying with his children. Korczak and his orphans were deported to Treblinka on August 5, 1942. They were all murdered at Treblinka.
