mm.. from my experience travelling many times of the year, the main spots will mostly always be crowded regardless of the time of the year but yes some peak times its even more crowded.. in terms of crowds I don't think its any different many other cities around the world (in fact it might be less) just go in with the mindset that some areas will be crowded and you'll be fine ;)

There's a lot of people doubting overtourism exists. Surely what defines overtourism is not the tourists, but those who have to live their lives disrupted by tourist behaviours? Every year where I live, tourists ruin summer and worse, the local Council thinks that we need winter tourists too! Something is rotten with this push to fill the CBD with loud, rude people. When you have to plan your trip to town around cruise ship visits, that is bad.
@NinjaMonkeyguy
22 күн бұрын
It’s not doubting.. I know it exists I’ve seen it first hand in many places around the world, Japan has set targets of 60million .. a target that has not yet been reached and a lot of the problems (not all) right now are mostly as a result of adjustment including infrastructure.. other locations have huge issues with tourism number far exceeding Japan’s.. it’s still early days

Everybody gets drunk on Halloween in Japan because the next day the Christmas decorations are already out. 😵💫😂 The scissor story was an over-the-top reaction, but they should only allow stores inside the secure areas to have rounded scissors like children use and not pointed ones. They allow grannies to take 25cm knitting needles onto planes which seem far more dangerous... the needles, not the grannies.

Over tourism, yeah everyone's going to the same places especially if it's their first visit , that's what you do , it's almost compulsory to go to these places 😅 but no problem just go one street over and you'll be fine , there's plenty of room for everyone, I saw that in June and especially the outer city areas they barely have a tourist and could use the extra business, as for those missing scissors idk probably no need to do what they did because even if someone purchased it , same thing

You've totally made my week with this news, I had no idea these cards were being issued again (I thought it would be like how it is in the UK where the population is lied to about things being temporary when the politicians always know the change will be permanent). Is this a 'coming soon' thing or are they already in circulation? Thanks for this informative video, much appreciated.

Yep these are NAMED Suica, you can still try to (and have been able to for a while) get the normal suica from JR EAST Travel centers which is the same place you'd get your JR pass from. Well, I never really plan to visit to see autumn leave or sakura. I've been able to be in there during prime sakura season twice without really trying. Nice to see, but I'm not really a hanami fan. Living in Canada means I get to see autumn leave by looking out my window so not a selling point on it's own for me. That said in areas where it happens it's nice to see but on my fall trip I don't recall being wowed in my late October/November trip. Japan highly promotes certain areas and sites, then is surprised that tourists both internal and external come and congest these sites. As you have said the infrastructure is designed to handle far fewer visitors than are showing up, but they choose not to adapt. Then segments of the population complain about they fact successfully attracted too many tourists. People not directly involved in tourist economy complain about disruption, but have already forgotten the ripple effect of almost no tourism of a few years ago. Doubling foreign tourist will only exacerbate the problem if they don't plan to change the infrastructure and crowd control measures. The scissors incident was a definite over reaction. Anyone could have attended the airport with something that could be used as a weapon. Either the airports security is effective or it's an ineffective for show only production. Based on the theory they used it is known that a major earthquake will occur sometime in Japan so treat 24 - 7 as if the earthquake is happening now. Nothing would function. All that said Japan knows how to deal with crowds, they just have to do it, because the crowds they are asking to come, will come and I'll be among them.

hmmm,... Shibuya mayor Hasebe wants to make the town more diverse and not just for young people parties. Regarding the scissors lost in CTS,... these were missing in a store in the departure waiting place. I think the airport administration showed its concern for passenger safety and acted correctly. Regarding overtourism,... as usual, the central LDP government will set new targets without caring about regular citizens' lives and municipal government finances. I think the August vandalism at Yasukuni Shrine is only increasing distrust and resentment of foreigners. To me, less tourism will be best since I think cities should care for their own population before foreigners.
