May I ask you a question miss? Do the prohibitions and taxes apply to foreigners who immigrate to Japan? Or only tourists?
@MegLog_JAPAN

At this moment, the tourism tax usually applies to everyone not only foreigners but Japanese resident.

Its a shame that these types of "influencers" have ruined so much of Japan's tourist spots in recent years.

I hope the ban in Gion private roads is successful as bad tourist behavior should not be accepted. I encourage them to enforce as they need to. Maiko and geiko are working artists, not a Disney attraction.

Not gonna lie... The way I see tourists act and they way I've seen locals not be able to enjoy their own country...I've always thought tourists should pay more for certain things.

I am glad I found your channel and so sad tourists are ruining things the same all over the world. Overtourism is a huge deal in Europe atm. Let's hope for a change in behaviour.

Hi, May I share the most important news you will ever hear in life? God the Father sent His holy Son Jesus Christ(Y'shua Ha' Mashiach) from heaven to earth, to be born of a virgin. He grew up and died on the cross for our sins. He was put into a tomb for 3 days, and then Abba Father raised Jesus to life and He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must all sincerely receive Jesus to be a true child of God. It says in John 1:12 "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." Will you genuinely believe on Christ Jesus and truly receive Him today, before it is too late?

I agree with the pricing hike. Especially since there's a lot of foreigners that go there and are disrespectful and disrupt the peace and try to go viral for it.

Japan, how would you feel if we charged you a different price because you are Japanese? The tourist prices you pay in America are the same prices an American would pay.

Thank you for a thought provoking video. I am a foreigner living abroad & I have learnt to recognise potential problems & steer clear of them

Thank you Meg for the wonderful video! I’m going to be in Japan for 2 entire months (June & July) in the summer with my boyfriend for vacation. Your videos have done WONDERS for our itinerary! We booked our accommodations all the way back in November of 2023, so I hope the prices were a little better back then than they would be if we booked now. ❤

I've wanted to come to Japan since I was a teenager. Now that I finally get to go, they have price hikes, and restrictions for tourists. I hate my fellow foreigners for ruining such a good thing.

Hi Meg, higher prices for tourists is a way of discrimination and it will not be allowed in the US or in Europe due to laws. I hope this trend goes away soon.
@Aloha_Alan

That's not entirely true. In Hawai'i, many restaurants and other shops offer a Kamaʻāina discount to locals, usually about 10 or 15% off. You have to ask for the discount, and not every place offers it, but like Japan realizes, the prices are unsustainable for locals. To my knowledge, this discount has never been challenged.

In Europe it is common knowledge that you don't eat at a restaurant close to tourist attractions cause those are always more expensive because of the tourists. As a local you just don't go there. But I guess at least the same restaurant usually has one price list.

On the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a bottle of water costs $13. As an LA local, I would never consider going there. It’s not that these restaurants in Japan are being discriminatory toward foreigners, they are simply lucky enough to be located in a major tourist area.

I think avoiding such "tourist trap" locations is not very difficult. I can't pay sky high amounts for meals.

Okay. It's a good thing that Japan is in Japan and not in the US or Europe. The heck are us laws and European laws gotta do with Japan? With the amount of havoc that unruly tourists have brought in Japan. They should be allowed to deploy counter-measures as they see fit to control over tourism. Personally I do not need the tax free discount which is to me is bs anyway because many many many people go to Japan buy a mountain of goods. Crowd the trains with their luggages and then go home to their country to sell those goods at a markup.
