I'm amazed that Gentildonna wasn't on the list. She won G1 Sheema Classic over 2400m in Meydan, Dubai in 2014 in her only overseas visit and at that time she dominated Japan racing. She and Almond Eye were both champion mares and both bowed out by winning their final G1 races.

David Wong- I completely agree. I hope Crown Pride wins the Kentucky Derby this Saturday.

I remembered Lys Gracieux. She was a late maturing mare who predominantly raced against fillies and mares. She thrashed a decent field in Cox Plate in Melbourne in 2019, the year after another champion (Aussie) mare created history with 4 consecutive Cox Plates. Lys Gracieux went on to win the G1 Arima Kinen at the end of 2019 before her retirement.

Although Delta Blues did not become a stallion, he is now living a peaceful life after a successful career as a dressage competition horse.

I could watch this video all day. So proud of Sunday Silence who started Japan’s racing dynasty.🏇
