The best view is the cab view ! In places it a virtual canyon of green , trees all through . Not a soul in sight - difficult to reconcile these scenes with Japan after being exposed to the normal crowded cities ; a welcome change indeed ! 5 жыл бұрын
@@davidwolstenholme1136 "Conductor rail" is the wrong term, though; a conductor rail is a third, energized rail provided on some lines to supply electrical power (via a collector shoe) to a train. What we are talking about here, however, is a "guard rail" (a.k.a. "check rail") which is installed on sharp curves and/or (usually in pairs, one inside each running-rail) on the approaches to, and the stretch passing over, certain bridges, in order to contain the effects of any derailment at such places.

The rails along the outside of some of the curves you mention are guard rails. They are placed on the outside of certain curves to help keep any train that derails within the right of way. Note that, in most of the locations where they are installed, there is a rather steep embankment dropping away from the tracks. If a derailed train were to fall down there, it would likely fall over, causing serious injuries to passengers and heavy damage to the train. This would make recovering the train much more difficult than if it stays on the roadbed. Also note that the ends of the guard rails are bent outward to help guide the wheels back toward the track, and the rails are connected to the crossties (sleepers) to keep the rails in position. These are not spare replacement rails, which are normally stashed either in a nearby station or yard area or alongside the track where rail replacements are scheduled to be made. Paul Ingraham, AsiaNRail Coordinator
@jam1966ful

@@paulingraham9316 There are some really small run off tracks that only seem a few metres long. I know some of the tracks are out of commission and those you can tell and some long enough to park a little rolling stock in but occasionally in these videos I see lines branching of that are too short to make any sense. You wouldn't know what these are would you?
