Nice. I personally do not like any Gerber products but overall you seem to have everything covered. For small multi tool, I like the mini Nextool or Victorinox super mini champ. I am surprised that you are not using a sling bag which would allow you to carry more like a power bank to recharge your phone and a blu tooth ear buds. I find for touring around a sling bag with a water bottle clip a must. Cheers. I hope you are having fun in Japan. I wish I can visit there. By the way .. love that knife!!!

I love having a small pack of hemostatic granuals. There's a few brands that make it, the one I have is from celox. One wrong slip with a knife or if you slip and fall on it that little pack comes in real handy. I also carry one small gauze pad(2 inchs by 2 inchs) to apply pressure. I stopped carrying the small band aids and just carry these 2 items along with 1 medium bandaid with antibiotics already on it and a few steri strips(3m brand) for all my first aid. Very compact and can fix some pretty serious wounds. It fits all in my wallet

Those are awesome suggestions and great first aid kit. I do use Steri strips for my full first aid and Survival kits. Do you remove them from the sealed plastic packaging for the wallet?
@HangryGiant
Жыл бұрын
@Urban Knife Guy I do take them out of the package yes because they come in a box with a variety and far to many, I keep the strips in a tiny ziplock bag(dime bag) in-between the celox and 2inch gauze

@@urbanknifeguy It is like Japan had the 58mm Victorinox blades in mind to keep legal when they came up with the 6cm length. 🤔😉

There shouldn’t be any problems carrying knives and they come in handy for people who get things done . I also think the otf is very safe for edc carry , even a. 2” blade is enough and axis locks and button locks I adore as well because they are safer to use compared to a slipjoint imo .

Got a quick question for ya: 3:11 if you carry these tools in your backpocket what do you do when you want/need to sit e.g. on a bench?
@urbanknifeguy
Жыл бұрын
My pants are not skin tight and the back pockets are not deep. I can sit down without the pouch being a problem, especially on a soft chair. Don't think I ever sat on a bench. If I am seated for an extended time like for a meal, i will take it out.

What are the rules with putting knives in checked luggage?
@urbanknifeguy
Жыл бұрын
In general, for outbound, the airline doesn't really care what knife it is. They are more concerned with flammable and combustibles. The issue is the customs of the country you are entering. As long as the knife is legal in the country, there will be no issue. But if it is an illegal knife and they scan the checked luggage once it gets off the plane (like in Singapore), they will flag it and ask you to open it when you try to clear customs. It happens to me all the time. I can be carrying a dozen knives. They are all legal and they will be checked. Once checked, they let me and my knives go. If I had an illegal knife or me like a butterfly knife or switch blade, they would confiscate it.
@alimfuzzy

@@urbanknifeguy just confiscate or fine as well? I'm assuming you declare it.
@urbanknifeguy
Жыл бұрын
I think if you declare, there will be no problem. If you don't declare and specifically say you don't have anything to declare and they find something, it might be trickier. So it will depend on luck and how "illegal" the knife is.

@@urbanknifeguy Would carrying a medium sized SAK with accessorized micro ferro rods automatically be red flagged in your check-in luggage?
@urbanknifeguy
Жыл бұрын
@@Misanti888 There will be no problem carrying almost any knife (except automatics, OTF, gravity or butterfly knives) in your check-in luggage. The law is more for what you are carrying in public. If you are going camping in Japan, you can have your SAK or fixed blade or large folder on you as those are lawful purposes. "Following the 2008 Akihabara Knife Incident, Japan's knife laws were revised. All knives regardless of blade length are prohibited from carry, except for lawful purpose. Such purposes include for duty, work, or outdoor activities such as Hunting, Fishing, Camping, Hiking, etc."

I'd feel a bit under prepared if I didn't have pliers, so I'd probably bring Knipex Cobras with me as well. I know, it would be rare needing them while being a tourist but I'm just so used to having pliers on me, I'd have to bring them. 😉 I'm a bit of a so-called "germaphobe" so I'd definitely bring isopropyl alcohol wipes with me as well, maybe even disposable gloves. I hate touching public doorknobs / handles, like those going to a public toilet room especially. Yech! 🤢 🤣

Your video is extremely misleading. Carrying that knife is most definitely NOT legal in Japan. You simply traded a felony offense for a minor offense, which is still legal trouble that you wouldn't want. You are lucky you didn't get searched by the local police.

It knife with no locking blade and less than a 5cm blade is legal. I even cleared security with that knife on me. Edit: But I will add that I am not advocating or encouraging anyone to carry any knife in any country but am sharing my experience.
