He thought that was a giant piece of celery. A mistake anyone could make.

I've watched the entire series of 'Old Enough' on Netflix. I watched it about 5 times, but I haven't seen this episode - it must be a different season? I think this show is adorable, and also amazing!! You would never see this behaviour in Western country's, but in Japan, it's almost normal, everyday behaviour.

In Jamaica this happens but sometimes the kids buy juice and candy instead ,but it’s usually the nabour hood shops smart parents write a not and they just hand it to the shop keeper 😅

I think kids getting distracted and bringing back unrelated stuff like candy is universal, ffff. My dad used to watch while I walked to the corner store too!! But it's since turned into a suspicious place in later years, alas...

The moment I saw the little girl was carrying the celery, i knew she would eventually snap it in half. Coincidentally, I was wondering why the grocer didn't cut/snap it in half, prior to sale. It's a nice presentation, but keeping it whole makes it slightly more cumbersome for customers.
I thinkthey did pretty well. Keep your kids and your country safe and dont start any immigration influx

You didn't have to be racist about it... there's actually already a lot of immigrants and mixed-Japanese, it's just also a society that's quite traditional and crime rate is low (prisons are very harsh in Japan)... helps that most of the population is elderly too, so, it's just a generally quiet place

A camera crew! They just follow in secret. Parents also sometimes watch from a distance in real life, it's to teach kids responsibility, but still keep them safe until they learn how to do things by themselves.
