Honestly I had pretty good school lunches growing up, when I was little, I got the normal chicken nuggies with small side of fries. Middle school u get burritos, cheeseburgers, salads, some gluten free options. Even breakfast, there’s cinnamon buns and chocolate muffins. High school u get a menu. This was a normal public school. They gave us popsicles on hot days and hot chocolate on cold days. It was great! Aside from the hw.

I remember when they passed that “heathy school lunches” thing years ago, here in America. If they wanted to make school lunches healthier, they should’ve started doing stuff like this instead of the crap they used to replace the old school lunches with. I already was starving at home, school was were i was able to get food for lunch. And if our bus made it to school in time then we got breakfast too. Then they decided to make all school lunches “healthy”, I started going home hungry. Everything was bland, disgusting and barely even edible. It’s wasn’t just revolting, it was practically vile. Not even the lunch ladies wanted to serve it to us, but that’s all they had and they weren’t allowed to serve anything else.
@deborahprice473

You can thank Michelle Obama, Democrats, and their healthy school lunch program for that. Back when my daughter's were in school all the meals in the cafeteria were like home cooked meals made by skilled lunch ladies. Now the stuff they serve now isn't fit to serve to neither humans or animals. 😢

My school wraps rice and a bunch of toppings in an oil paper wrap and sells them for 0,34 dollars each (You can also choose to add more by paying more up to 1 dollars max). The most common toppings include Fried Noodles, Shredded Chicken cooked in chili sauce, Sauteed Spinach, Chicken Betutu, Fried Tofu, Chicken marinated and cooked in a soy sauce mixture, Tempeh, Coconut Serundeng/ Saur, Fried Peanuts, Sausage & Meatball Soup, Fried Eggs, Hard-boiled Eggs, Sauteed Shrimp, Chicken Liver, Extremely dry and super crispy Chicken Intestines, Extremely dry and weirdly puffy pig skin, extremely chewy pig fat, pig intestines sausage meat thing, These extremely crispy and tasty thing that I don't know the name of, Lawar, Lodeh Soup, Sambal Matah, Sambal Bawang and so many more that I forgot. The toppings varies from province to province but I live in bali and these are some of the common food served at school. We can also choose other stuff too, like instant noodles, instant cup noodles, spaghetti, variegated drinks with a dedicated store for it, lots of snacks, sandwich, fried macaronis doused with -diarrhea powder- extremely spicy seasonings, sempol, bakso, nuggets, so many fish balls of many different type, chocolate banana, fried banana, cupcakes, ice cream, candies, batagor, siomay, seblak, and so much more :(

My experience with jp school meals: bottle of milk, rice, savoury dish (fish, meat etc), side dishes (usually veg), miso soup. Sometimes you will get dishes like curry, or udon, or both (curry udon). This is kore personal experience but i still think its cool to share that the students would serve the food with one or two adults to help out. Everyone wore masks and the teachers would eat with us (i was in the lower years back then)

Idk about thinly sliced bacon but thick slices; smaller pieces of carrot potatoes and onions and a smaller pasta like those letters/stars or seed shaped ones make a great soup. Add some chicken bouillon and black pepper for flavour. Sometimes I didn’t have money for chicken so I’ve done multiple versions of this soup with whatever vegetables I had and sometimes would substitute the pasta with rice. Pro tip: wash and peel all the vegetables first and while you’re cutting everything boil the scraps for a richer flavour, highly recommend throwing a smashed clove of garlic and/or multiple spices (cayenne pepper, chili flakes, herbs if you’re into that, garlic/onion powder etc), you can throw the meat if it’s not sliced than when you’re done remove the meat, strain the stock and you’ll be done with a more flavourful soup without spending more money. Also, you can save the bones and excess fat off of your meats and freeze them for when you wanna make stock!
