One time my ex threw my passport in the garbage and I had to replace it. First they wanted me to call to make an appointment, then I went on hold for hours and it hung up on me. Eventually I just went to the office, sat there for hours, was told that I needed to pay for the expedited passport with cash only, go get cash, come back, file paperwork, and come back the next day to pick up. I had been trying to get a passport for I think 2-3 months at that point and was traveling the next business day. Government insanity and legacy equipment. Over it.

Norm doing another Q&A I somehow missed is a rare treat for me. I’ve gotta say after living in Florida for a few years and dealing with nasty hurricanes, I don’t miss those kind of storms.

Oh, typhoons are scary, I mean I live in Europe, so we don't get crazy storms like tornados or typhoons maybe then and there is a blizzard, but the typhoon sounds scary, and that was a nice QA thanks for that :) was really interesting.

I have no question as such, but I LOVE the mug you were using, it has a real retro vibe going with the tempered glass and pale garden pea green fading to white. Do you still have them? My parents used a wine bottle green tempered glass dining set, and, as always wit such items, they are TOUGH - until they aren't then they splode all over the place. I had a pyrex dish do that to me once. I was barefoot and someone had to clean the mess up while I stood there unable to move, lol.

Bacuse of the global warming, weather in Poland is getting as extreme as typhoons in Japan. During the last winter the wind was soooo strong, that I was affraid it may destroy all the windows at place, where I was living during that time 😰thankfully nothing bad has happened 🙂 I can't imagine cutting out all the music from my life 😱your commitment is truly amazing!

I will be living in the Bahamas most of 2018 so I'll be in the same boat as you! I was little shocked about the bar experience but I like your positivity about it. You're right. Unfortunately there is racism everywhere, no place is exempt. You just have to remember that the percentage of prejudice is a small blip of people compared to the rest of humanity. I like to think the good far outweighs the bad among people.

Too cool . . . question - I am retiring in November and taking a three month trip to Japan (March-May, based in Tokyo) . . . do you know anyone who has retired to Japan? Plus, looking to volunteer at an Eikaiwa - do you know of any? Or, what would you recommend to increase my chances to meet and talk to people? This is my second trip and the plan is to stay longer and figure out the option of living there ;>

Julie, have you considered going to a language school? You can get a student visa for 6-24 months, and work part time with on a student visa. Check out Go! Go! Nihon, they help people find schools and get their applications submitted for school and for the visa. They have a KZitem channel where they have a lot of common questions already answered in videos.

That’s a really cool phone case! Also it’s nice to see that you’re very open minded and accepting of the Japanese culture. I feel like it would be a little unsettling to feel the building sway. But it’s probably because I’m not used to it.
