So I've grown a lot of mushrooms in my day and I've never seen spawn that looks like that. What are you growing?

Shiitake :) I thought it would be interesting to try pf-tek on smth as exotic as that. Turned out to be delicious, but I only ever managed to harvest 2-3 fruiting bodies out of one jar!

where did you get those pp5 jars?
@shortnotesoneverything

they're glass, not plastic (at least I think that's what pp5 means). I got them by eating all kinds of canned goods from the supermarket and not discarding the jar :)

What kind of spawn is that? Dried grain with mycelium?

Each jar contains a different kind of substrate! Sorry, I forgot to include the link to the blog post in the description: ļwww.shortn0tes.com/2019/02/growing-mushrooms-at-home-beginners.html

@@shortnotesoneverything yes, but what did you dump into the substrates? Dried Mycelium?

@@shortnotesoneverything interesting, I didn't know you could dry mycelium and then reactivate it!

The way you're doing this you can skip the SAB altogether. In no sense is this a sterile work technique. I highly doubt that even any of your PF tek jars survived this, not to mention that it's a guaranteed failure for anything that requires a sterile workflow such as producing grain spawn. To anyone watching this video trying to learn; Don't. Check out pastywhite's video on SAB workflow as it shows sterile tek that is actually sterile.

Can you be more specific about why this is not a sterile work technique? I'm trying to learn and know very little at this stage so if you could point out the errors that would be really helpful. Judging by the comments it was successful.

He cleaned his environment, his jars were sterilized and in the previous comment he also said he achieved fruiting bodies from the shiitake, just because he doesn’t do things as you would normally see doesn’t mean it isn’t effective. I am curious about the grain spawn though. I wouldn’t keep it in a plastic bag. But other than that it was good and I’m pretty sure the mycelium can evade the contamination of its fully colonized that small amount of grain he had.

@@amberruelas2813 He used his hands to grab the mycelium and inoculate the jars. His gloves were not STERILE, they were just sanitized (not guaranteed to be free from endospores, for example). This was a serious vector for contamination. Not saying that it was guaranteed to fail, just that it´s a very unnecessary risk in my opinion.

You have no logical basis to make that conclusion. Anyhow, everyone hates a rat. Don't be a rat and people won't hate you.

'Illegal' are the 'legal' drugs, like alcohol and tobacco- causing millions of deaths every year, and don't even get me started on the pharmaceutical industry! Mushrooms are natural, organic plant medicines.

@@maciej.ratajczak it's crazy. The government wants everyone to hurt from alcohol and tobacco and spend money on pharma and then continue to not release cures even to make more money. But something that grows in the earth can be "illegal".
