Wish you had video of the rigging on the stern, Main traveler rigged up , Tiller. Would you use a Tiller Tamer & Extension?

@@joehartoon Mr Hartoon, I too have an old javelin, 1986 I think. I have NO manual for this boat. Do You have one for yours? I've LOOKED a lot online & can Only find about 5-7 pages and THAT is not easy to see & read. IF U have a manual or access to one & you would share,,,,, I'd be Very Grateful! Thanks!

@@youtellmegod I don't have a manual but I have now sailed more than 50 miles in mine. I can show you how I've rigged it and other things I've done.

It is little stuff to step the mast solo. The way I do it I place a rug on the deck then while standing on the deck get the mast vertical next to the boat then lift it straight up to the deck on the rug then inch it over until you can ease it through the deck into the mast step. The mast stands up by itself attaching the stays is easy. make sure the boat is strapped to the trailer.

I bought a used O'Day javelin, but still learning to sail. First problem - stepping the mast single-handed. I could barely manhandle it alone. Any ideas how to make that go smoothly?

The problem for me was I went across the lake, winds sped up and the boat kept pushing and tilting almost to capsizing. Recommend 2 people for the extra weight...

This is a good video. I've got the identical boat and was looking to see how it's rigged up. And this one is the most helpful I've seen on youtube. So hopefully this weekend will be the first sail.

Is it just me or is the sail mounted incorrectly, the boom side is mounted on the mast in the video.

I thought the same thing.

@@johnfreeland3604 No--it's set up just right--the battens are mounted in the leech as they should be--the small lines flapping in the wind running up the luff near the mast are called tell-tales--usefull for visualizing airflow over the sail-- they are not reef point ties. It would be impossible to mount the boom side on the mast because the boom would not be long enough to support the long side of the sail--there would be a lot of sail just flapping past the boom.
