Welcome to episode #93 of the Rock Interview Series. For this feature I have singer/songwriter/guitarist and co-founder of the British post-punk band Gene Loves Jezabel, Jay Aston as my guest.
Gene Loves Jezebel are a legendary British band that emerged in the early 80s as part of the gothic rock and post-punk movement. They have released several albums and singles that have earned them a loyal fan base and critical acclaim, such as "Promise," "Discover," "The House of Dolls," and "Desire."
Jay Aston is the creative force behind Gene Loves Jezebel, and he has recently released a new album "X-Love Death Sorrow" with his version of the band. This album is a stunning collection of original songs and 5 covers that showcase Jay’s distinctive voice, guitar skills and songwriting talent. It also features the production of Peter Walsh, who worked with the band on some of their classic albums.
In this interview, Jay will tell us more about the making of "X-Love Death Sorrow," the stories behind some of the songs, and the influences that shaped his musical journey. He will also talk about his upcoming North American tour with The Alarm, another influential band from the 80s, and shares some memories and insights from his long and successful career with Gene Loves Jezebel. In addition, Jay discusses one of his favorite bands Led Zeppelin and much more.
