My first contact with Jay came about when I was putting together a CD compilation of popular Jewish songs by various popular artists. I had already gotten rights for recordings by Tom Jones, Connie Francis, Johnny Mathis, Jackie Wilson...my best friend...and others, but I wanted to include "Where Is The Village", which they had once recorded in Yiddish & English. I wanted to interview Jay for the CD, and we spoke often by phone...he being in NY and me in Los Angeles. We became good friends and spoke every 2 weeks or so for a couple of years. One day he called to tell me he was asked to close the show for a Connie Francis tribute at the Friar's Club at the Waldorf in NY, he invited me to come as his guest....How could I refuse. He was very gracious and introduced me to all his celebrity friends, I was totally unprepared for that...he was a gracious host, and put on a hell of a show. We kept in contact on a regular basis until his dementia overtook him, but I will alway be thankful and honored to have been his friend. As to the CD, it proved to be very successful, much of which I owe to Jay..."Jewish Soul: The Heart & Soul of Jewish Music" www.amazon.com/Jewish-Soul-Heart-Music/dp/B08KBH4CQS/ref=sr_1_2?crid=995RVVY7MLNZ&dchild=1&keywords=jewish+soul+the+heart+and+soul+of+jewish+music&qid=1603308465&s=music&sprefix=jewish+

His son does not sound that bad. i am sure there was a lot of singing and music when he was growing up. My dad was a 30 year US Navy war veteran and when he was home or when we would go to family parties Dad would sing and play his guitaror ukulele and dragged me along sometimes to sing back up with him. Dad was my first music teacher. There was always music in the house before cancer took him away.
