I have been waiting on someone to mention “Turkish Women at the Bath”! Thank you! That record is in a category of its own. It can be found under Pete LaRoca’s name as the leader of the session as well as under Chick Corea’s name as “Bliss”. You can listen to it here on KZitem. It is difficult to describe; my try: not quite dark but dusk, pensive, adventurous and nearly thematic as a concept album. It is intentionally mixed in such a way that the reverb is nearly as much of the session’s particular aura as are the selections and the musicians’ collective contributions. What’s more, you ask? Chick Corea on piano and, get this, John Gilmore (Sun Ra’s longtime tenor saxophonist) on the tenor saxophone! I consider it essential for any jazz collection that goes beyond the well traveled go tos. Thank you for recognizing this wonderfully strange, adventurous and, yes, beautiful LP!

Great recs gentlemen! Whenever you see Willie Bobo in the personnel there’s going to to be a Latin flair. Herbie new what he was doing when he nabbed up Bobo for Inventions and Dimensions. I also highly recommend Willie Bobo records when he’s the band leader. Great Boogaloo artist!

5 In and out. (I think other record beat it musically but this cover is top 10 all time in jazz m. 4 Taken off. Incredible lineup and I am piano biased. 3 Inventions and Dimensions for everything said in the video. It’s also why I love Kenny dorham because he does similar things on a couple records 2 Open sesame. Nothing else to be added from the video. It’s just great. 1. Indestructible. Love it. Top 3 Blakey record and he is a top 5 jazz artist for me so it’s a no brainer. Jazz messengers are just too good.

@@JazzBums Sweet…thanks, I’ll check that out. What I’m trying to figure out is are the BN80, Classic, and Tone Poet all separate pressings with no crossover? What i mean is did, or will my BN80’s become Tone Poets?

We can't say for sure, but most likely they will not revisit the same titles across the different series. Blue Note considers the 80s and Classics to be all one series now basically. - Chris
