No mention of Big Band Sounds: Drums Around the World? You got Cannonball, Benny Golson, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers... the list goes on. I'm one of the "non-drummers" that took a lesson with Quincy on Skype. He's the real deal. I'm still working on displacing that Charleston. After I get through this whole "house buying" business, I'll hit ya up again. Signed -- an amateur jazz guitarist :)

From what I can remember in Jazz Records class: Miles Davis - trumpet Paul Chambers - bass John Coltrane - tenor sax Red Garland - piano "Philly" Joe Jones - drums Prior to Coltrane, Sonny Rollins played with them. Also, Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly played with essentially the same group later, and Jimmy Cobb took Philly Joe's spot. There's a lot of overlap between each of these spots, so the question I have is which configuration of the First Great Quintet is your favorite, professor?

Don't know if you'll see this three years later, but anyways here goes (since I'm getting into transcribing Philly now). When you're transcribing, are you writing it down first and then working it out/memorizing it? Or are you learning it by ear then writing it down? Or perhaps a bit of both? Thanks Quincy! Absolutely love what you are doing on your channel

How’s 12 hours rather than 3 years🤣🤣? I write it down then learn it note by note memorizing it as I go. I usually memorize solos bar by bar, then phrase by phrase. Have fun with PJJ Jon!
