The JBL Pulse 4 is easily one of the best speakers under $250 and some Rs. 30000 in Nepal. You get a scintillating light show and powerful audio, making it one of the stands out wireless Bluetooth speaker to buy.
The design is well-built too as it is protected by a hard-plastic outside. There is rubberized padding running along the top and bottom of the speaker. It is heavier than the Pulse 3 at 1.26Kgs. You get all the controls on the top, while the Type C charging power is located in the middle.
As expected, it lacks the 3.5mm headphone back making it a Bluetooth exclusive speaker. It has IPX7 water and dust resistant feature meaning it is quite durable.
On to the audio performance, the JBL Pulse 4 is excellent. There’s a single 57mm transducer on the top and a passive radiator on the bottom. It’s a 20W audio driver with a 360-degree speaker array. For the best audio, you should place the transducer on the upper half.
The audio from the Pulse 4 is also very loud with rich audio output. The audio is ample for an average-sized room. There’s a nice level of bass and the vocals are crisp and clear. So, Pulse 4 is a perfect speaker for all kinds of music and movies.
Battery life is pretty decent providing around 8-10 hours. It takes around 4 hours to charge from 0 to 100%. The JBL Pulse 4 has its own cons though. There is a lack of Voice assistant as you can find on Google Home or Amazon Echo. Also, you will require the latest JBL speakers to connect to each other. You cannot connect like say JBL Pulse 3 and Pulse 4 together.
The JBL Pulse 4 also comes with the older Bluetooth 4.2 with basic A2DP & AVRCP audio codecs like on Pulse 3. However, there isn’t any connectivity issue as such.
Apart from the sound quality, the JBL Pulse 4 USP is its light show. With its colorful LEDs, it is visually very appealing. You can also customize the light show using the JBL Connect App. So, overall the JBL Pulse 4 is an excellent Bluetooth speaker for US$250.
