Khon Kaen is more modern than I anticipated. I would imagine that rural Isaan must be very different. Another very informative video.

Upon my visit to Thailand, it amazes me that there are more 7-11 convenient stores in Thailand than there are in the States. They are either across the street from one another or next door to each other. Reminds me of Starbucks!

I sent you the information that set you up for this entire series on Khon Kaen. You showed up in town and made this series and passed right by my apartment. You didn't even bother to call text or just send an email to tell me you were in town. I only tried to offer you my friendship. You gave me a total stiff arm. I didn't want anything from you but respect. That's why I've waited over 5 years for your reply.

Hi JC, I've been to Thailand a few times the question I have is that I've seen blocks of ice dragged through the streets and chopped up. Is there an easy way to tell if the ice in your ice mocha came from one of these blocks as opposed to an ice machine?

hope you can answer my question. Do prices for groceries vary much from one city to another? I saw the section on Tops Market, are the prices for the fruit by kilo or per item? How is the freshness compare to the street markets? Thanks for the help and VLogs.
@EscapetoThailand
8 жыл бұрын
+Luis Gutierrez Hey Luis. Prices change regionally based on supply of certain fruits and vegetables. So the closer you get to the point of origin the cheaper they are. Bigger restaurants and grocers have coolers so they buy in quantity and you lose some of the fresh picked freshness that you get in local fresh markets.

Interesting video. On the food aspect, Have you ever considered showing what healthy options there are for anyone who is health conscious? Not everyone wants to eat only/mainly animal products - although admittedly (for Farangs) the vast majority do just that.
@EscapetoThailand
9 жыл бұрын
Metal Guru I mention all the time I don't eat beef or pork. Just order your food without the meat and with more vegetables. In the member site there is extensive information on vegetarian eating and organics. But because the topic applies to such a small number of my KZitem demographics, I don't go into it here.
@metalguru5226

retirecheapjc I know you don't eat pork JC . not sure of your reasons for that but it can't be for health since chicken is just as bad for you - if not worse. I suspected it's not of any interest to most people. They'd rather die than improve their diet. But nevertheless, there is a growing trend away from the 70% + calories from animal products diet shown in your vids. Depends how wide you want your appeal to be. Anyhow, that was a good idea for your members. Thanks for the response and your entertaining and informative videos.

Wow...I didn't know that they were showing Farang films there (Only about 2 screens in Chaiyaphum and they only show in Thai language). Again, another perk to living nearby. For those who don't want to live in the big city, but still want to be close enough to be able to take advantage of the resources, Chaiyaphum, Roi Et and Maha Sarakham are nice smaller cities that have a more leisurely pace of life. Although, you will not find a lot of English speakers there. These places are great for the Farang who wants to assimilate into Thai culture. I would not recommend Isaan for those who are looking for a large Farang support group and infrastructure. Although, there are a few groups of Farangs available to network with. When staying in Chaiyaphum, we generally make the drive into KK about once or twice a week.
@EscapetoThailand

Jim Yerardi There is a large contingent of Farang in Udon Thani though which is in Isaan just south of Nong Khai which I did videos about. I will get to Udon next time I am in Isaan.

How often do folks get food poisoning ? Are you pretty much safe by staying away from the fermented fish products and water thats not bottled ? What about ice ?
@EscapetoThailand
5 жыл бұрын
Ice was an issue when I first came to Thailand. It's not an issue anymore. And all the water that is served on tables is bottled water. Or you can buy individual bottles at every establishment and store if you prefer to do so. Vendors have to be aware of the food they're serving because of their local clientele. All small shops or carts only buy food that they're going to serve in a day. And it stays on ice until they cook it.

Re: the minced fish/chicken/pork etc. How do you know exactly what parts of the animal have been minced in there? I'm not into eating the guts, if you will, and it would be easy to have it in there without you knowing it.
@EscapetoThailand
9 жыл бұрын
Dennis Weifenbach Great question. The restaurants usually have just the meat and no skin or other parts when it comes to the chicken but you wouldn't know until you ordered it. And the fish is usually pretty straight forward and no surprises. Maybe a stray small bone or some BBQ'd skin. Better restaurants have better quality due to pricing. There are forms of Larb that are made with parts of pork or made from blood that you wouldn't like. Make sure though that you ask for it "mai phet" meaning "not spicy" or it will really light up your life!

retirecheapjc Bully you? Please. Your question was not specific at all. I assumed you were referring to hand hygiene. If I was incorrect I apologize. But can I offer some advice? In the USA now "bullying" is the buzz word of the year. Bullying (not physical) only can happen to people who have low self-confidence, self-esteem and self-worth. In other words people who somehow have adopted a victim mentality. Notice all those words contain "self" meaning we get them from within and cannot come from...

Boring.....you showed nothing of Khon Kaen except for the station and airport this could have been anywhere in Thailand. You showed markets, everywhere has markets. the restaurant is on Mittraparb Rd and is not up market as you said. You said the monk`s remains would be spread on the Chao Phraya, which you said was in the NORTH, the Chao Phraya river starts SOUTH of Khon Kaen at Nakhon Sawan where the Ping and Nan meet. Khon Kaen nightlife consists of a lot more than the 6 or 7 bars between Kosa and Pullman. MORE RESEARCH please! GET IT RIGHT!

+Dave Rowley Looks like you don't need this information because you are so knowledgeable. But for those a little less knowledgeable I am sure there is some valuable information given in the resources and costs for those looking to add Khon Kaen to their list of possible places to do more research about. Maybe there are other channels more to your liking and a better fit for you. Thanks for your valuable input.
