STATE COLLEGE, Pa.-- Nittany Mall shoppers share fond memories of JCPenney that will close its doors for good on Saturday.
"JCPenney was the first charge card I ever had," Andrea Kennedy of State College said. "I really like their product. I really liked their clothes so I am going to miss it."
A statement from corporate officials read, "While it's never an easy decision to close stores, we feel this is a necessary business decision."
6News told viewers back in January the store would say its final goodbye in April.
"It is pretty sad because it is one of the major stores you have to shop in this area. State College does not have a lot of choices for families to shop in the area. I know a lot of families travel to Altoona or other areas and to see JCPenney close is a sad day here," a shopper Nina King said.
6News cameras rolled as people carried out remaining fixtures and hauled them away in trucks.
"The mall used to have everything in it," Ashley Guiser, a shopper who has lived in State College her entire life said.
A mall spokesperson said they do not expect the JCPenney location to sit empty. There's already been two major retailers touring the space. While they have remained tight-lipped about which two retailers are interested, they said the stores sell similar products as JCPenney, and they expect the space to be rented out soon.
"Something that brings just as much people in would be awesome, something new and exciting," Guiser said.
