A very rare sight, at least in the UK - 2 Toyota Crown mild hybrid saloons. one of them has a charging fault that leads to a non starting condition. Toyota couldn't fix it, but I can!
Greetings from Wembley… Great Video, thanks… sorted the charging of the 12V battery by replacing the 36V battery… now we have a problem where the 100A PAL fuse for the alternator will blow… have you ever encounter this problem?!

Can't say it is no, that's a big fuse to be blowing could be dangerous, be careful. What conditions did it blow under?

@@jdmjesus6103 my beloved cousin wanted to help and put the 12V battery the wrong way around. This caused 3-4 fuses to blow. Including the 100A one… Replaced all and worked like a charm… problem now solved, all 5-6 100A fuses that I have blown since the incident where unfortunately a very bad quality. Managed to find a quality 80A fuse that works like a charm. Will order a genuine 100A from main dealer next week,£24 each vs £5-6 the cheap copies….

@@danielh1758 ah yes, that would do it! You're lucky no other damage was done, but it is a Toyota so it's not unheard of. Toyota parts are usually very good quality versus aftermarket so hopefully that sorts it

What happens if they don't replace the 48V battery? Will the car (engine) still operate?
@jdmjesus6103
2 жыл бұрын
No, because the 12v battery won't charge. It's the same as when an alternator fails on a normal car, it'll run until the 12 battery runs out of charge then it will cut out and won't start. The 12v system still runs all the normal car systems like lights, engine, instruments etc. I don't know if disconnecting the 36v battery would help, the only other fix I know of is to run 3 motorbike batteries like the other commentator suggested.

@@jdmjesus6103 Is it possible to start the car by charging the 12v battery using a charger at home?
@jdmjesus6103
8 ай бұрын
@@nghoiyu it would start, but it would only run as long as the battery lasts, it wouldn't be charging so it would run down pretty quickly. Hours at most, probably less.

@@jdmjesus6103 Thanks. At least it would start. I own the same car and am afraid the 36v battery would die one day and it is difficult to find a replacement due to export restriction. Do you think it is possible to wire three 12v batteries together as a replacement?

@@nghoiyu if you check the rest of the comments someone does talk about how they did it. 3 motorcycle batteries seems the way to go, in series of course. Not sure how you'd transfer the temp sensor but other than that, there's nothing special about the battery, it's just a lead acid battery with 3 times as many cells (not sure if its exactly 3, don't hold me to that, I've not checked).

Hi Kieron - My Crown has a charging problem under load .ticks over all day long with no problems and is fine in stop start traffic but on a motorway run first the engine management light comes on and then it stops charging ! Any ideas ? I’m in North London and many people have looked at it but can’t figure it out .thank you Jimmi

That could well be the hybrid battery starting to fail like this one. Try and get someone to test the voltage while starting from the hybrid system like in my vid, that should tell you.

Купите обычный 12в. Высверлить датчик температуры со старой и всё, затем повешайте рядом с новой этот датчик. Экономия.

@@ess5052 I considered something like that for testing but the other car was available so that made sense. If it was my own car I would certainly have used 3 batteries rather than pay Toyota! But I was fixing this for a dealership and the new owner wouldn't have liked 3 batteries instead of the right one. Great idea on the motorbike batteries though! I was only thinking of full size car batteries. Motorbike batteries would allow all the luggage space to be kept.
