I fell in love with Miss Harlow over 50 years ago, and the affair has never ended. Like you, books and old movies were an escape from an early age, and I'm so happy to find a kindred spirit. I thought Mitsouko was her favorite perfume, and purchased a sample. I think it's interesting that she used it to scent her cigarettes, since it had a smoky note. I'm a guy, and I use Guerlain Vetiver, which has the same smoky quality. But Guerlain L'heure Bleue is sheer magic, and it would suit Harlow perfectly. Many years ago, I had the good fortune to spend some time with Roddy McDowall, and one night he waxed poetic on Jean Harlow and how she simply lit up the screen. He also said the her true story had never been told. Sadly, I never got to discuss it with him beyond that evening, since he grew ill and died. There was a huge renewal of interest in Harlow in the early sixties when a terrible, exploitative biography by Irving Schulman was published, and that's where a lot of the misinformation has come from. Sorry to ramble on, I'm new here, and I'm looking forward to experiencing your videos. With much appreciation, Daniel.

I loved Mitsouko and owned a bottle of edp and another of edt. However some years ago I visited my granny’s stylist who was also one of her best friends and now he lived in a very poor neighborhood under awful circumstances and he showed me a bottle of his vintage Mitsouko and L’Heure Bleue. From that moment every time I wore my Mitsouko it made me feel sad and depressed so I ended up giving it away. I always regretted that but I can’t keep from thinking about that sad afternoon with him. Of course both are real masterpieces of perfumery and I adore them both when someone wears them, but the connotation and memories they bring to me make them impossible for me to wear them anymore. So sad, isn’t it?😢

So never thought of Harlow's perfume. Interesting!! Harlow really is interesting. Fav Harlow movie "China Seas" "Red Dust". Amazing to me growing up in the 70's always watched the late late show and never remember seeing a Harlow film as well have never seen a VCR thruout the 90's in thrift stores. I know she has been on TCM since the beginning, but she seems like she was lost until cable and TCM came along. Any takes on why this was? So the Perfume of the stars, you might be on to something!

Thanks for watching Robert! That's a good question, not sure why because I grew up in the 90's. But I'm glad she's shown and talked about more these days!

There was a great big Harlow revival in the 1960s, including two cornball movies about her. One starred Carroll Baker, the other Carol Lynley, two popular blonds then. They're still available... probably. Each was a fictionalized account, loosely based on a book by Irving Shulman, which was loosely based on Harlow's life. Every decade or so, there's an uptick in Harlow nostalgia, and there certainly is one now.

@@akrenwinkle That is interesting. Probably people who watched her in the 1930's, and the fact she died at 26, plus the book got people interested. I bet my mother liked Harlow. Stumbled on Harlow 4 years ago, so have watched all Harlow movies numerous times. Am still fascinated by Harlow probably one of the reasons is a great Twitter site devoted to Harlow, called "Harlow Heaven".
