Larry Hagman was such a great comedy actor, his timing was perfect. Him and Barbara Eden made a great comedy duo. After all, who doesn't love Jeannie?

Which time? When she tricked Tony into marrying her or when she gave up her powers to be the perfect housewife?

Sidney Sheldon *wanted* to film the series in color from the start, but NBC (and his distributor. Screen Gems) refused-- even though HE was willing to pay the extra $300 per episode for color production {"Sidney, don't throw your money away", a Screen Gems executive advised him}. The truth was that the network and Screen Gems didn't think the show would last a full season to justify the extra cost of color. Of course, they underestimated the viewers tuning in ["JEANNIE" had equal- and sometimes, higher- ratings opposite Jackie Gleason on CBS], and renewed the series for a second season- *IN COLOR.*

I thought it was odd, I didn't think he ever did. He came out if his bedroom calling her name, so it didn't make sense that he put the cork in... I wonder if Jeannie loosely put it there herself for privacy

Initially, NBC was *VERY* nervous about how viewers would respond to Jeannie and Tony's "master and genie" relationship (and the fact they weren't married), so they told creator/producer Sidney Sheldon from the very beginning, in a memo: "They must never touch each other. We will see Jeannie go into her bottle alone. We will see Tony go into his bedroom to sleep alone. Jeannie must never go into Tony's bedroom. Never let Tony go into Jeannie's bottle." And so on. Sidney insisted to network executive Mort Werner, "I'm doing a comedy. I don't intend to make it titliating. There will be no sexual innuendos or double entendres." Sheldon KNEW the audience was smarter than NBC gave them credit for. They were in on the "joke"- and that Jeannie and Tony really cared about each other, and could imagine what their "platonic" relationship was like *between* episodes. In time, Sheldon was able to do everything NBC didn't want him to do, on camera-- AND NOT ONE VIEWER OBJECTED.
