Over a year since I've had the DCQ-3500 and still going strong, no problems at all. A few months ago I added another 3500 to the tank's internal corner filter; it's a bit more than I need there but I've got it dialed down near the lowest and likewise happy with its performance.

This was my first online review so unsurprisingly I forgot some points or didn't clarify enough (some of which I found out after posting the video): -- Besides the 4-pole electronic motor, actually the biggest difference between the DCQ and its predecessors appears to be that it has wave function via the controller (which I only mentioned briefly). Not sure how effective it is, and I certainly don't need for running my UV sterilizer, but it may be of interest to especially reefers. -- I forgot to include the sound test clip :( I'll show in my next video, but the DCQ really is ultra-silent -- can't really hear it at all, the bubbles from my air pumps are louder. -- As poster @Golf Seasun says below, the DCQ pumps max watts can be affected by head pressure and voltage, which is why my is only reaching about 23-24%, not full 28w. Not necessarily a bad thing, and in fact should prolong the life of the pump -- but think about this when determining which size is best for your needs/head pressure. -- Also didn't clarify that this pump replaced a Sonic 3500 (2800 l/hr & 2.8m head pressure), which at 60 watts consumed more energy, was louder and made my tank hotter than the 3500 l/hr, 3.0 HP, 28 watt DCQ.

It's only been 2 months but the DCQ-3500 is running really well no issues. It's now in my Flowerhorn's new 5' tank; I'm going to get 1 more 3500 for the 115g's internal corner filter.

Great review the only one I've seen with this new pump on youtube.Thinking of getting the dcq 10000 pump for my 800 litre.Is it a quiet pump as mine will go in the sump.
@BarrettAgentAdventures
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments Noel! These babies are super quiet, rest assured you won't hear it in your sump. I've recently also installed new DCP-4000 (for UV sterilizer) and DCP-10000 (main internal corner filter) pumps on my 375 gallon -- can't hear either of them, my air pump is way louder. I got the DCP's because they were a tad cheaper (and also preferred to have a black rather than red unit in the tank). The DCQ's might be even a bit more more silent though, with new "Four-pole electronic motor" (whatever that is).

Nice review. It seems to be a good pump. How does the feed mode work? Is it a default mode? Thank you.
@BarrettAgentAdventures
5 жыл бұрын
Thx for watching! Yes I think it is a good solid pump. I don't really use the feed mode (as it's not creating much current with my current usage/set-up), but it's not on by default -- seems as though you just press the button on the controller and it turns off for 10 min.) I think you can adjust this duration, but I don't really think you can set it up for auto-feeding at certain times -- the instructions are only in Chinese :( If anyone knows otherwise please correct me.

Thx for the useful info Golf -- in fact I was wondering if head pressure was causing it to affect max. wattage. So good to know my unit isn't defective, and good to know the unit is smart enough not to over-push itself then burn out faster. [*I bought this unit from Golf's shop, Seasun Aquarium at Chatuchak market in Bangkok -- he's got a lot of great stuff other shops there don't have. They also have one of the best online aquarium shops in Thailand, seasunaquarium.com/shop/]

Hey Jeff, thx for watching -- actually Drakaris is half Kamfa / Half Red Texas cichlid so he'll never have a big kok (which actually is one reason I bought him -- done the Super Red Dragon with big kok route before, this time I wanted something different). Since this video he's gotten bigger, about 12" now, but kok is nearly same proportion as before.

Thx for stopping by Eduardo -- yes the DCQ-3500 is still operating perfectly, no problems at all. My Flowerhorn has a 5 ft. (115 gallon) tank now and I'm using the pump the same way as this video (4ft/88gallon).

If you increase the head pressure, the watts will automatically increase and max out at 28w.. there's no issue with the pump

Hi Justin, appreciate your watching -- since I've had it absolutely no problems at all, does exactly what is says and so far dependably so. Deals with power outages just fine (always comes back at the programmed speed). Granted I don't use the Feed or Wave functions, so really can't comment on them but ime I would highly recommend the DCQ to replace your DCT.

Most welcome and quality wise I don't think there's really any difference between the DCP and DCQ models (I also have a couple of DCP's running on other tanks), like you between the 2 models I pick the one that best matches my desired size/flow rate

nice video, the wave wave function, how work?, make waves on the tank?
@BarrettAgentAdventures
6 жыл бұрын
Thx Jaime -- to be honest I don't know exactly how the wave function works as I don't use it (and not sure how effective it is) -- more useful in a salt water application I'm sure. But basically yeah, it makes waves in your tank by periodically and automatically adjusting the flow rate.

They don't use less electricity than a mains voltage the only advantage is safer and electronic control water speed the 28watts is actualy dc power not mains power
@BarrettAgentAdventures

Thanks for the input Eric -- I'm really not an electrical engineering type, so I'll take your word on that bro -- I guess the point I was trying to make was that to get an equivalent amount of flow from a regular pump it would need to be pulling about 70-80 watts, whereas the DCQ is running at only 28 watts for same flow -- therefore it seems one is saving electricity/money by using a DC pump -- is this rationale flawed?
@patterdalezipsuzilil

I realised this when I changed to a dc pump skimmer so I plugged a power meter into socket and it was drawing 1.2amp mains current which at 240v so voltage x amps =just around 300watts mains power mine was a 4000ltr jacod pump my old pump mains was 80watts mains power people get mixed up with the power rating on box it's acualy as I said dc Watts of power the diver power pack should tell you its actual mains voltage input it uses

Where can I get that hose ? What size hose does this pump use??
@BarrettAgentAdventures
4 жыл бұрын
Not sure where you could get it wherever you live; here in Thailand most fish shops carry hoses like that. If your LFS doesn't have maybe try your local home depot or hardware store? I'm using a 3/4" hose but you could also use 1" if you cut the adapter.

@@dagainsta6253 Well no place in the world is perfect bro but overall it's a great place to live and work. I reside on a lovely resort island and given the importance of tourism here many people speak at least some English so language barrier isn't a big issue at all. And positive is that we have easy access to beautiful fish and at shocking low prices compared to back home (same with tanks, accessories, etc.). Hope you can visit some day, you'll love it! Btw I've since changed that hose to hard plumbing (3/4" pvc piping) on that particular pump, so you could consider that as well.

Thanks for watching Andy but beg to differ with you: while most will use them in sumps or ponds (as I say in the video), plz check out the DCQ's marketing material more closely and you'll see very clearly they are intended for a variety of applications. I also state the color thing is just a personal preference. Note also that sumps are not so popular here in SEA, yet many people use Jebao's DC pumps.
