Great video. I'm only 18, and I often find myself wondering what it will be like when I'm 60. Even I, with my short time span of being aware of current events, can tell how quickly things are going downhill. By the time I'm in my sixties I doubt society will be recognizable, if things continue on the current path. It's heartbreaking to see how quickly we have turned our backs on our forefathers and the values that made the West so great. We've come so far, and we have so much to lose. Although, I am very thankful I have something to fight for. Thank you for your words of wisdom and God bless!

Im 34. My dad showed me this movie when i was a child and it has had a lasting impact on my life. Im in Texas and im seeing my own state slowly turn blue because of all the California transplants and illegals coming in to vote(which they are being allowed to do in democrat-run cities as im sure you know). To be honest it breaks my heart. But i have a cabinet full of rifles and im loading up my own ammo stock. My favorite line in the movie is when Sheen's character asks Jed "What's the difference between us and them?" and Jed responds...."We live here!!"

You misinterpreted the movie. Democracy is not homogeneous or easy. But the world of Red Dawn was invaded by foreign enemies, who still fester to this day. Yet, we ignore their actions today and call it fake news as if a former KGB stooge is not the president for life. Now, we see violent division is being tormented. Countrymen called names not heard since the cold war. Dehumanized to foster a civil war that would benefit only one group, enemies of the United States. What are we being fed by the president and his rich boy bootlicks? They sold out soldiers for bounties and said nothing, not even to send warning to our warfighters.

I agree with a lot of what you say about the football tactics but you need to remember in 1984 in most small town shops you did not find a lot of ARs, AKs or military style semi auto rifles as there where very few folks into them at that time short of a few survivalist. I worked in a shop at the time and eventually became a dealer as well. Most shops may have had military surplus Mausers along with your standard hunting rifles. The Ruger was one of the most affordable of the bolt actions at the time compared to Remington and Winchester and the 30-30 Marlin and Winchester was the go to gun for most farm/hunting applications. So in small towns where money was tight these were what folks could afford and what the shops would carry. So yes they would be more familiar with these over Military style rifles compared to today as most gun owners seem to have at least 1 or more AR/AK in their collection if they have more than 1 gun. Your also right, we are being attacked not from an invading force but from with in our own ranks. O O-ya Red Dawn is one of my favorite movies.

Just discovered your channel and especially thrilled that you are located close to my location on Hwy 16 Northern BC. Your talk resonated with me on many levels but I wanted to comment on your statement about well made hunting rifles lasting for years and being handed down which touched me as you showed off your M70. I am now 64 (how did that happen?) and 24 years ago inherited my father's standard grade pre 64 (1949) Win M70 in .270WCF which he purchased new (he was a HUGE fan of Jack O'Connor which is why it was in .270). My dad took a lot of game with that rifle and humped it up and down many a mountain. That 70 year old rifle still puts 130gr old CIL ammo (yes I still have some) and any reloads into 1" at 100yds every time you squeeze the trigger and the rifle looks as good now as the day it was bought. I like heavy for caliber bullets so I feed it 160gr Nosler Partition at about 2750-2800fps. It is a prized possession. MLU to you as well sir. Would love to share a camp fire with you some time.

When I retired from the Marine Corps, I got a certificate from the Secretary of Defense congratulating me on helping to win the cold war. Propaganda......yes. It just shows the state of mind we all were in at the time. It disheartens me to see that the commies my have won anyway, by brain washing this generation to lean toward commie ideals and government. Maybe your video will reach some of these people enough to research what communism really does to a society and that we need to avoid it at all costs. Thanks, brother.

I grew up hunting fishing camping shooting mechanical skills my generation was very well trained to survive if necessary . Especially compared to this new generation that can't even change a tire. Antifa! Wow I can't believe what there aloud to do. I'm all for speech rights and the right to peacefully protest. But in my opinion that doesn't include showing up with a mask and a club. I'm not for over-regulation but if you show up with your face covered and armed you should be arrested immediately. Guys like you and I if we protest we don't show up for their faces covered. We would be there to voice our opinion not intimidate others. We have our big election coming up. I know exactly who I'm voting for. Thanks for sharing

I was born and raised in a big city, but..... both my mother and my father were raised on farms in Rural Ohio. I grew up with guns. I was shooting at age 5, and hunting at age 8, and hunting by myself at age 13. I am now 57, and about to look for a place down by my cousins who all live in rural southern Ohio. I reload all my own ammo, which we caller rolling our own gun fodder. I have more country in me than anything else, but have always lived in the city. There are a few of us like this, but not many. Loved your video brother. We all need to be careful of who we elect in our countries. Our governments want to control us, and the gun control they do here in the U.S. has nothing to do with a single gun death. They know they can never control us if we are armed. Those who do not know their history do not know it was the armed citizens of the states who fought the British, and sent them packing. That was the tyrannical government that is what brought about our 2nd amendment. So it was made so that any tyrannical government, whether it be another country, or our own, that we are to be armed so we can dismantle it, and start over. The last I heard, there are 300 million gun owners in the States. The same page also stated that the U.S. armed citizens are 3 times larger than all the worlds militaries combined. And for more of those in the states here... the Militia... that is us... the armed citizens. We ARE the MILITIA. Well regulated simply means, well practiced with our arms. The 2nd Amendment says, A We;ll regulated militia, being necessary for a free state, "The RIGHT Of The PEOPLE to keep and bear arms. The people to keep and bear arms. Let me type it again, THE RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE to keep and bear arms. It does not say Militia, because the People are the Militia. Get some pocket copies of the constitution, and read it, learn it. KrisAnne Hall has a great YT channel and teaches the constitution. She is also an attorney and her husband is a pastor. She was a prosecutor until they found out she was teaching people the constitution, then they fired her for that. They do not teach the Constitution in law school, so they do not want anyone knowing it. School yourselves, so you will know who to vote in or out in each election.

Sorry rifle chair, a conservative party led by Sheer is no answer. He is barley showing a back bone now, after he gets elected that will disappear totally. Don't worry about a totally new party it could not possible be worse than what we have now. Besides the civil servants run the country day to day we only need the politicians to tell them the direction they want to go. To me Max isn't the best choice, he's the only choice. If he could get Jordan Peterson as an advisor, Canada would be a formidable country. Great video by the way. Message received.

I was reading a book years ago & it mentioned that US military used the movie to train soldiers on guerilla warfare mentality, don't know if that's true but I remember thinking it wouldn't surprise me lol I just got Dad's old sporterized No1 Mk3 Enfield back from having custom mount made for new 3x9x40 scope, just need to get it dialed in. Love it just been figuring how to rig optics. I did consider to do Model T to preserve the stock mount the WWII scope on it. But also wondered about the Monte Carlo stock conversion kit. All stock is original from what I can tell with sights, just unsure. Model convert? Monte Carlo it? Or just keep as is.? Oh and is the Number 7 Bayonet worth investing in for fun for the Number 4?

I love the USMC but I really wish they kept Jed the rural town kid. They took something huge away from Jed when they did that. For me it only proves that the director had to have been a city kid and had no understanding of the urban / rural divide.

Riflechair. I'm seeing this video over a year after you published it and of course it is still just as relevant now as it was in Jan 2019. I am a few years north of 65. I live in the states and am on the conservative/libertarian end of the political spectrum. Also a firearms owner and was drawn to your KZitem channel initially as I own an M 48 Yugo Mauser ( a fine rifle too) in addition to more tactical firearms. I both enjoyed and appreciate the very eloquent way in which you used a favorite movie to illustrate what is occuring in both our countries and as an old school "baby boomer" certainly has me concerned. Paul we as freedom loving concerned citizens need to, must stand together, against this damnable Marxist scourge, overcome it or loose that which we hold dear. Enough of the soapbox rant. I do enjoy your videos my friend. Stay safe. Oh by the way. I truly enjoyed my visit to BC and Vancouver. We (the better half and I) visited Whistler/Blackcomb mountain and had a pleasurable stay at a nice Sandman hotel while in Surrey. Just up the street from what has become my favorite "burger joint" a Red Robin. All the best to you.

They ended up grabbing the soviets weapons IIRC and used that for most of the movie. I think the mentality of the director was that a small town sporting store wasn't going to be carrying any AR-15's, and with the Cold war in full swing the Big Russian weapons in the movie were all fakes except for the AK's which were Egyptian ones apparently.. If your sports store caters to deer hunters, you are not going to have racks of AR-15's. This was a resistance movie, start with what you can get your hands on and work your way up. I know here in canada it was big city stores during that time period that had the fun stuff on display like the shorty chinese AK's and the other "scary" guns that the Banners decided were too fun to own.

You might be right - I'm just using my imagination. Most Canadian guide outfitter stores carry a few black guns today because they sell so well. Plus black gun technology is being manufactured for domestic Canadian needs - especially predator rifles. In any case you're right however I'm pretty sure Jed ran that Ruger for a significant portion of the movie.

I will be voting conservative, but for only one reason, gun laws, the rest i dont trust any of them to make good decisions for us. and besides, in my opinion, we have just under 18 months and this whole thing is gona go to shit, hopefully im wrong, but i dunno, doesnt seem to me that in the US they will be getting outa this one unscathed, so i guess we will just have to see.

If I needed to depend on a rifle to stay alive, it would probably be my Ruger M-77 Ultralight in .250-3000 Savage that I would depend on. A lot of rifles have passed through my hands since I bought that thing new back in 1985, but it still remains, still wearing the same Leupold 2-7X Vari-X IIc scope I bought for it the same day I bought the rifle. Why that rifle? Because I shoot it well. So does everybody else who has ever got behind the butt of it. "Recoil" and .250-3000 Savage" really can't be used in the same sentence and the report is equally mild-mannered. But it punches above its class in terms of terminal effect. If there is a down-side to it, it is that .250-3000 Savage ammunition was rarer than sympathy when the rifle was new and "the situation has not improved" in the time that I have owned the thing. On the plus side, it isn't finicky when it comes to component choice in handloads. It will shoot pretty much any component bullet from 87 to 120 grains well. It doesn't seem to care whether I use W-W 748 or IMR 3031, 4064, 4320, or whatever. During the ammo shortages of recent history, I had no trouble finding .257" component bullets when the shelves were bare of pretty much all .224, .244, and .308 projectiles. When I bought the rifle, my parents lived near the Sierra Bullets factory when it was still in California and I used to buy bullets there by the pound. I probably have over 5,000 of them. I know I have about 5,000 cartridge cases for it. I can make about the same number of .250-3000 cartridges out of a pound of powder as I can when loading .30-30 and the .250 is easier for kids and small-framed adults with zero shooting experience to use than my Marlin 336 is. The "Ultralight" is light enough that I don't even feel it when carried but it is heavy enough to settle down and keep under control when a crosswind is blowing on its barrel. Yeah, it's an old tang-safety M-77, which means it should have a crappy trigger, but it doesn't. It should be kind of imprecise, too, but it isn't. It was M.O.A. or better from new and it still is now in spite of all of the use it has had. Cocking effort is minimal and the bolt runs in the receiver with snotty slickness, so it is a pretty fast thing to run to for what it is, especially when its non-existent recoil is factored in. It wouldn't be everybody's choice when things turn to doo-doo but I'm only planning on using it to put distance between me and other people if I need to and kill things to eat. I think I might need a hunting rifle more than a battle rifle so I'm taking my favorite hunting rifle with me. I could make a case for my old Elwood Epps converted No.4 Mk 1 Enfield, too, but I gave it to my son years ago, so it isn't really mine, anymore. It is the only centerfire rifle the kid cares to own. He says he already has the best full-power rifle ever made and everything else is second-rate..... ;)

I'd love to play with a Savage Model 20 chambered in that round. I think a lot of folks out there under-estimate the .25 calibre alternatives out there. I ran a 25-06 in a Vanguard for years and loved it. After walking in the bush pretty much all of my adult life with a rifle in my hands I've really come to appreciate lightweight rifles. @@Riflechair I suppose I have a fellow by the name of Roy Chapman Andrews to blame for my ongoing infatuation with the .250-3000 Savage cartridge. Like you, Riflechair, I would also love to play with a Savage Model 20 in that chambering, and Roy Chapman Andrews is why. I guess I spent too much of my childhood reading books he wrote. When I heard that Ruger was doing a run of Ultralight M-77s in .250 Savage, I had to have one because I figured it was as close as I would ever get to a Savage Model 20 in .250-3000. I stumbled in to a shop as they were putting two M-77 Ultralights in .250 Savage on the racks. I bought both of them; one for me, one that I gave to my father for Christmas two months later. Thanks for your channel, Riflechair. It is one of my favorites on KZitem!

@@canadiannavigator3346 The .22-250, the .243, and the .270 are indeed fantastic cartridges and I don't think there can be any legitimate dispute over that. However, because I shoot the .250-3000 Savage out of a reasonably accurate bolt-action rifle, I personally don't have any real need for them. The closest I get to "varmint shooting" is the occasional half-hearted attempt at coyote wacking. I don't think the .22-250 is going to do anything for me as a coyote killer that its parent .250 Savage hasn't been doing. I've owned a few rifles in .243 but twixt the twain, I prefer the .250 Savage because I can shoot 117-120 grain bullets out of it if I want to. Some of those bullets, like the Sierra 120 grain GameKing, were originally designed with the muzzle velocity of the .257 Weatherby in mind. When started at the more modest velocity of the .250 Savage, they "wade in deep" and have zero problem punching through the gristle plates on wild pigs. Inside the distances I normally shoot game at, I really don't think there's that much difference between a .257" bullet or a .277" one, or between 120 grains and 130, for that matter. Yes, a .243 shoots a bit flatter with 100 grain bullets than a .250 Savage with 100 grain bullets does, and a .270 shooting 130 grain bullets has significantly less drop at 400 yards than my .250 Savage shooting 120 grain bullets does, but I'm hardly ever shooting at game far enough away for any of this to matter. In my 43 years as a licensed hunter, the farthest shots I have taken were one 275 yard poke at a pig on Santa Rosa Island in California, and another 275 yard poke on a mule deer on the desert slope of a California mountain range. Every other animal I have shot, from caribou in Canada to pronghorn antelope in Wyoming to elk in Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico, have all been shot at distances of 175 yards or less. I credit that to having started off as an eleven-year-old boy with a lever-action .30-30 and spending my first eight years as a hunter working within that rifle's limitations. In reality, I could probably get on fine if my old Marlin was the only rifle I had. That's why I am confident that I could along fine with just my .250 Savage, too. As great as the .22-250, .243, and .270 are, they really don't offer me anything I truly have a need for because the .250 is already doing the majority of what I want a center-fire rifle to do for me. They're three fine cartridges, though, and deserve their popularity and the reputations they enjoy.

Here's another reason why I would rather have my Ultralight in .250 Savage than anything else I can presently think of if I ever need to stake my life on one rifle. The .250 Savage doesn't have the case capacity that a .243 does. But that's okay in my case, because I'm shooting it out of a 20-inch barrel; plenty long enough to burn all the powder I can use in the .250 Savage case behind a 117-120 grain bullet. It is arguably a little more friendly on barrels, too, because of higher expansion ratio and lower case volume. The .250 Savage uses a shorter case and shorter book-specification loaded overall length than a .243 does, but in my case, I am shooting it out of a rifle with a magazine sized for .243-length ammunition. Because of this, if my barrel throat ever gets eroded enough to cause accuracy to suffer, I can compensate for that by simply extending the loaded OAL a bit beyond book specification and the ammo will still run through the magazine. At the muzzle end, I could wack an inch or two off the barrel and fix erosion at that end without sacrificing a whole lot in terms of terminal performance, if I ever absolutely needed to. That's another reason why I would take my .250 Savage instead of my ..30-30 in a "poo-poo has hit the fan" situation. I can theoretically get more barrel life out of it, if I need to.

hell, no need to invade when you can influence elections. the death of democracy is not just about gun control--that can happen later, and quite easily. this separation of americans by right and left into tribal units develops the hatred that is essential to social collapse. we need leaders who pay attention to all points of view--not just their supporters....
