I decided to make a short video on the key steps to replacing the bushings in our Cherokee Trailhawks. Normally the dealer and shops tell you you need to replace the entire knuckle, but that's not the case. Chassis Pro CP1879 is an exact replacement for it. Moog K202090 will only replace 2 of the 3 bushings (lower control arm/ spring link). There are a couple ebay shops that will have them. Replace hardware if you can. It is necessary to replace the wheel bearing hub nut, so go grab these from the dealer. When pushing the bushings out and back in its handy to have a second set of hands for help.
You will need:
- Metric sockets (10mm to 22mm)
- Metric wrenches
- Metric allen keys (5mm)
- 32 or 36 mm sockets for wheel hub nuts. typically its 32mm but I have either an older style axle or an export Cherokee axle in mine, which required a 36mm. 32mm socket will work to press the smaller bushing out.
- impact gun (for lug nut, stuck bolts, driving the ball joint press). mine is rated up to 350ft/lbs or torque.
- Torque wrench *very important*
- mallet or brass hammer to knock out stuck bolts
- ball joint press or hydraulic press. Ball joint press is much easier.
- something just under 47mm to press the larger bushing out. I had a custom one from scrap from work and used it to push all of them back in. make sure it has relief for the center of the bushing.
