As someone who is looking to be a rescue vehicle, it's just really nice that SOMEONE has installed a rear winch, and shown how to do so. I also like the wireless option. Since my rig will be used for other than just my pleasure, I will have multiple batteries, so having an extra charge cable and controller won't be a problem. Again, very good of you to do, and post, this exercise.

My thought if I ever needed one. Take hook off, remove fairlead. Then fab a mount that will bolt in place of fairlead with the receiver. Sure it would only be two 1/2in bolts holding it on, but a Jeep cant tow much anyways.

Did you consider using a smaller winch, maybe a 5000 lb, and using a snatch block to get you're pulling power back up to 10000lb? You would run at only half the winching speed, but you might not have to have cuts as much or needed an aftermarket exhaust.

No. the reason for this winch was the wireless clutch. I have these winches front and rear, they have been flawless and the wireless clutch is awesome.

Question on the wiring, did you use welding cables, battery cables, jumper cables, or just get 2/0 at Home Depot, or another home store? I am putting a winch and bumper on the back of my Gladiator and this is the last part of the puzzle I am working on.

Battery. That’s what they are for.

I was just wondering after doing all of that can you still have a trailer hitch on there?

Not really. About the only way is to have a custom receiver, remove the fair lead and use the two bolt holes to mount a receiver, even then it would be very light weight.

Hi, I am planning to install a winch in the back of my JK. However I would like to avoid all that cutting. How much would I have to lower it to avoid cutting? Anyway a really nice job with the video 😉

If you don't cut then I don't think its worth the install. Adding a winch below the body/frame of jeep will decrease ground clearance. Adding behind will degrease departure angle. For what I do, it has to be installed like I did it or not at all. Your uses may be different, just consider how much space the winch will take up if you don't cut and install like I did.

Absolutely beautiful! If i may ask. What size is that support beam you used under the winch?
@snowismas

3”x5.0 or even better use 3”x6.0 channel iron. The second number is the weight per foot.

Did you weather proof the back after this was all done? If you leave the trunk space open like that im sure youll be getting in a load of water on a rainy day.

EUV RIDER I did not. Not much water comes in from wet roads if any really. The carpet flap thing covers the hole mostly. My Jeep is bed lined and used mostly off-road. So water getting in doesn’t really matter to me.

Can I ask what size wire you used to run to the back to power the winch? Looking at doing this in the next month and need to order the proper size cable.
