Any chance the original speaker has a trick to removing it? I have one that can also use D batteries and can’t work out how to get the speakers out without damaging the case.

I think it just pulled straight up including the black plastic parts. There was probably some glue holding it in. Once out there are some screws holding the 2 black plastic parts together.

I'm in need of a replacement power supply. Could you provide which one you are using?

I just got one of these! The volume works out of both sides but is really quiet. I opened it up and it doesn’t look like anyones ever messed with it before. I’m thinking it’s an issue with the amplifier. Any tips for working on this bad boy would be great!

Usually if an amplifier fails it is not just weak output but no output or very distorted sound. I would plug in headphones to see if that output works. If it does, it may be the switching contact in the headphone jack which mutes the speakers is not making contact when the headphones are unplugged. Sometimes just plugging in and unplugging multiple times can self clean the contacts enough to work for a while. Also, toggle the function switch back and forth for similar reasons..

@@mevmevmev after some further exploration and trying the headphone jack as suggested we noticed that adjusting the volume knob only changes the right channel whether using speakers or headphones. Still very quiet.

@@Lovelydeck Based on that, I think it is very likely the main volume control. Mine was in bad shape even after cleaning. I just replaced it and now the left and right are very stable. The original part may be impossible to find. I ended up having to replace it with one that doesn't have an on/off switch. Now to turn it off I have to unplug power supply, though I could add a dedicate power switch. One way to test if the amplifier works: There is a gray and black cable on the connector at the upper left of the screen at 4:38 in the video. The red wire from each is the left and right source audio signal, and the white from each is the left and right input to the amplifier. The orange and brown wire turn the power on when shorted together. You may be able to test the left channel by turning up the volume, then shorting the red and white wire coming out of the gray cable. It should force signal to the amplifier. If it works, that would confirm the volume control is bad. If it doesn't work it may actually be the amplifier circuit is bad. Basically a lot of work for a cheap radio, but it looks nice!
