Jeff Beck began to separate himself from his peers during this period, when he elevated the jazz/rock fusion genre to epic heights. He never came back down and when he finally left this earth, he truly was the greatest electric guitarist of just about any era since its invention.

Stevie wonder wrote Superstition for Jeff Beck but kept it for himself .'Superstition' was originally written by Wonder for guitarist Jeff Beck, who appears 5th on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. Beck had agreed to be involved in the Talking Book album sessions in return for Wonder writing him a song.

Beck’s longtime keyboard player Max Middleton wrote this track as a tribute to Led Zeppelin. George Martin was the producer on this album, he also worked on many of the Beatles’ records. This was a very productive and creative period for Beck, and I was lucky enough to catch several of his shows during this timeframe (saw him 10 times total over the years). He was always solid. Thanks for the insightful reactions, guys.

Also playing a big part on this album was Jan Hammer on keyboards. He had developed a style on the mini-moog playing with the Mahavishnu Orchestra where he would bend notes and phrase like a guitarist. The last solo was him. Later he did the music for Miami Vice. Stevie Wonder plays on the song "Thelonius" on Jeff's Blow By Blow album.

You have hit gold with this album. This is the first Jeff Beck album I was exposed to, became an instant fan for life. He's been in my top 5 favorite guitar players since then. But Beck is not like your usual solo shredder who focuses all the light on just him. He lets the other musicians shine, as you've obviously heard here. What's interesting about the songwriting is that half the songs were written by the drummer, Narada Michael Walden. You've got the great Max Middleton and Jan Hammer on keys and Wilbur Bascomb on bass. AMAZING album. Keep going, no clunkers here.

I love how the keyboard player, Max Middleton, got a solo while Jeff went to rhythm guitar mimicking the bass line. I never knew this was a homage to Led Zeppelin written by Max. I haven't figured it out yet how this pays tribute to Zeppelin. Anybody? Correction; Max wrote this but Jan Hammer plays keys on this track. Love Jan Hammer! I like what Bill Barr said about Jeff after he left us. "Stop calling him one of the greatest rock guitarists. Just say that he is THE greatest." Cause he was for so many reasons. I truly believe that it is an objective fact. If he doesn’t ring your bell, that’s understandablethat. But his skill set was stacked higher than any of his peers. He never played a bad note, his tone was sublime. The musicality simply soared from his expanded mind. I consider that a sight of true genius. Humble, he could "sing" so enchantingly with his guitar, and turn on a dime, then growl like a grizzly. He was the Barry Sanders of his craft. There is no other performer that you would go out of your watch in wonder than the best It took me a while to admit this opinion I a few guitarists that thrill me to no end, but being honest, I can’t name a more accomplished musical artist.
