I was SO LUCKY to have BEEN THERE for this! Actually, it's my giant head that is in the way for so much of it on the left. I'm so sorry I was blocking the camera so much, but so grateful to have this video treasure of being literally in the same space as him. I also met him this night and he was incredible, it was truly like meeting the sun, he radiated that much warmth ☀ And of course the poem is amazing and his reading most of all 💖

@Daniel Benisty your comment reminded me of something he said in one of his interviews in regards to men (and I'm paraphrasing here so go easy on me) "I can't tell if they want to have sex with me or want to kill me." The way he said it really showed how self-aware and uninhibited he could be. If anyone knows the exact quote please feel free to correct me! I'm going to see if I can find the clip and get it word for word. This could take a while...

Quatorze Juliet and none, so for Jeff, Kurt, my friend Eric and Mama For love and spirit that shoots the star so warm. For moments as we kiss each other than the men sent up. From you my Y'ryr, ye Jamaica burn is my true sigarette the friend smokes about my forest wheel of tarot. From my dead scars I would rape the noise. If I had you in your glitter I would sprout my flower of heavens mark and name it after Led Zeppelin. forever in doubt and forever in whiskey. For our moment that I stroke a Thunder there will be bells. If my collapse is because I fly to high I would ask my host in the sky that I would scent romance. For if I fall my Grace, I'd speak to the next sun under the clothed blanket and wish you were awakening. From my first guitar a smashed moon was the answer I said to my chief and when u eat spit it over me for Sketches for my Sweetheart the Drunk. And if I would be a lone, could you ask for my hope and m son, because if disco fell on the earth my prince is you, and leave it like a leaves book, my flaws, fantasy for your Morning Prayer. Watch the birds.. carpented. This is, I'm a Pheniçzx

Sometimes, these beautiful words are so uplifting and a balm to my heart that I come here to watch and listen as the need arises, has been more often over the last 15 months than ever before... More than a love letter, a brilliantly cogent proclamation encompassing such a wide range of emotions and possible expressions of and for those energies, wildly alive within any of us, if we are vulnerable and courageous enough to face and embrace them. Love to the memories of Jeff, now and always... 💗

@@wetpants96 I was too! Veronica Ruth I'd love to hear how you remember the night! Pnz you weren't talking to me but if it's ok I'll answer too, yes I did meet him afterwards. Unforgettable. I always say it was like meeting the sun, he radiated this incredible warmth & force field, made you feel like the only person in the Universe as he focused on you. I imagine every single person who talked to him felt that way - unless they were jerks, because I'm pretty sure he could flip a switch to a different sort of energy when he needed to.

@@joanhenry5178 Hi Joan. You're SO lucky to have been there and had the opportunity to meet Jeff. It was interesting to me that you mentioned how he made ppl feel like the only one in the universe when he focused on them because his ex girlfriend said the same thing when I met her in 2011. He wrote "Grace" largely about her. You might have heard of her, Rebecca Moore. She's also a musician.

I've always loved this ❤Even though Jeff writes "You, my love..." I know all those allowances if you will, are his own wishes and prayers. It's what he wanted from people relevant to his own life. The freedom to be himself, warts and all. Just the ability to fail in every endeavor and still be loved...isn't that what we all want? To not live in fear of our own authenticity? If only... When you're abandoned as a child, you always feel it was your fault. That you weren't good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, skinny enough, special enough, important enough. A child can't process all those feelings left behind. They don't have the tools or the capability to rationalize that maybe the problem is with the person who left. It can haunt you your entire life and it's relentless. Anyway, (ugh, cliche) I digress. Having lived it myself, I get it. Always worrying the "real you" might send them packing. Always striving for perfection, because who wouldn't love that? It's exhausting. Like a dog chasing its tail...until it dies. And finds freedom. The End.

I love & agree with everything you've said. And Jeff's incredible, painful experiences and also the spirit and gifts he was born with all combined to allowed him (or required him?) to process all of that through incredible art, incredible music, incredible voice. If I have to choose a single most favorite Jeff song it's Grace (for so many reasons), but if I have to choose a #2 it's What Will You Say, because wow, that conversation with the parent who abandoned you completely (as opposed to other kinds of negative stuff he seemed to have experienced that he also processed through music) is just beyond powerful and cathartic.
