I’ll always wish my kids would have met you, I’ll always wish you’d been at my wedding, I’ll always need you. I know you’re in a better place, and your suffering has ended. Rest well, mom. Majority of my generation doesn’t even know who Jefferson Airplane is. Heck, most of my class hasn’t even heard the name Chevy Chase before. But all I need to feel joy is knowing that at least one other person in the world stays with this kind of music. I hope I can one day meet someone who likes 60s-80s music in real life. Nothing else really screams love and peace as much as this song.

Well we probably won't meet, but I love the 60s and 70s. I grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. I have seen the Airplane play about 10 times, along with all the bay area groups with the British of that time. I was blessed. I saw Hendrix play. He was a sight to behold. It was a a time to be young and free. This song about lost love, and the emptiness in your heart ❤️ kinda says alot. It is one of my favorites by the Jefferson Airplane. This, Today, Somebody To Love, Tumblin, by Jefferson Starship. Of course, alot more. They were my favorite bay area group. Dave in Sierra Vista AZ

Yes, I'll tell you that you're not the only one. I'll tell you a true tale about my love for a woman separated from me by circumstances that almost spelled a fate that might have ended in sad tragedy. 'Comin' Back to Me' has haunted me ever since I first fell in love, when 'Surrealistic Pillow' was on the charts. In 1968, I found myself alone & stoned, staring out the window where no curtains hung, in Augusta Georgia. I'd formed an illegal commune of Army medics, off-post amid fates unknown; a private rental we occupied as dissidents who'd been drafted against our will, consigned to the vagaries of unjust disruptions of Viet Nam war nonsense. We knew that our futures were threatening all our personal plans, including my then-dissolved plan to marry my sweetheart. I played this song & wept. Well , it ended better than my emotions feared. I did marry my sweetheart, and went to Germany with her. The rest of the story is fraught with other surprises, good & bad, but we are all subjected to surprises; that's life! Yet, as with you, this song has deep meaning that's aged like fine wine with nicely-flavored nuances! Please know that your deep emotional attachment to 'Comin' Back to Me' is no lonely experience.

I was only 14 years young & my brothers where off in Vietnam, as I only had this beautiful song to reference to, as to where I was in life. I remember this moment as if it was yesterday... Yeah. Definitely an amazing track. Quiet and timeless. It exhales nostalgia like incense in the air. I remember sitting in my buddy's living room one evening in college, after hanging out in the woods all day. We were all spent and tired, and we were listening to this tune on vinyl, not saying anything, just sort of staring at nothing, at peace. That was a long time ago, but that moment is etched in time, forever. As I listen to it right now, I'm brought back to that peaceful moment, sitting with my old friends in that apartment, after hiking through the humid woods, among rays of sun penetrating the canopy like stalactites from the sky. It's great how songs like this can collapse time and bring us right back to those moments, right back to the odors in the air, and the feel of the floor against our bare feet.

@@rexmonarch2 Great memories. thank you for sharing, the first time I was in San Francisco, I was 5 years old, my Mother dressed us very carefully layers of clothes, and I had to try to figure out how to not lose my stuff, on the way home, as it was always rainy in the mornings , then sunny in the afternoon. She was the greatest and she took me all over the city exploring, the best days, we had. I had 2 older brothers, who explored San francisco in the 60s, but Mom was really protective, as I was her only girl, which I am, glad she was, But I did get to go visit my older brothers, in the summers, and we always had so much fun, Hayward, and San Francisco!

Enlightened, yet profound in its sadness and deeply affecting, this song to me has always suggested what I imagined to be the real emotional heart of the 'summer of love' in 1967. It says much in a handful of lines about a time, a place and a feeling that was authentic, uninhibited and truly felt, but seemingly could not last, for many reasons. To me, this may be the greatest 'delicate' song ever written; its slightness and fragility really do capture a fleeting moment in time. This is some kind of masterpiece - 'the shadow in the mist could have been anyone' tears me up. Thank you Jefferson Airplane - rest in peace Marty Balin; the depth of your humanity and understanding won't be forgotten while this song lives.

When performing this live with Jefferson Starship, singer Marty Balin almost always introduced the song with a reference to the Surrealistic Pillow sessions, mentioning Jerry Garcia as having played the guitar parts on the original studio version. Grace Slick plays the recorder on this. LyRicS The summer had inhaled and held its breath too long The winter looked the same, as if it never had gone And through an open window where no curtain hung I saw you I saw you Comin' back to me One begins to read between the pages of a book The shape of sleepy music, and suddenly you're hooked Through the rain upon the trees, the kisses on the run I saw you I saw you Comin' back to me You came to stay and live my way Scatter my love like leaves in the wind You always say you won't go away But I know what it always has been It always has been A transparent dream beneath an occasional sigh Most of the time I just let it go by Now I wish it hadn't begun I saw you, yes, I saw you Comin' back to me Strolling the hills overlooking the shore I realized I've been there before The shadow in the mist could have been anyone I saw you I saw you Comin' back to me Small things like reasons are put in a jar Whatever happened to wishes wished upon a star? Was it just something that I made up for fun? I saw you, I saw you comin' back to me...

This is one of their best songs. It is sad, to remember your past loves, and know you will never be together any more. This song kinda rips your heart out. It is done so well, and the words show meaning and emotions that never really go away, they are buried by more recent events. Every once in a while, your inner emotions come bubbling to the top, and you want to rememberyour past love better, and play this song. Wow.. In time, your feelings and emotions all come to the surface, and you handle it the best way you can. Also, I lived in the San Francisco Bay area when I was a teen, and saw them play this. Marty Balin was Airplane's balladeer. This and Today take me to a specific place and time when I was young.

While this song has the earmarks of being a 60's song. And I remember first hearing it back then. It also has aged so well. Balin could write moody tunes that touched something inside. Love this tune.

a true gem that got scattered like leaves in the wind throughout time and what others consider to be real music today. Marty sings with heartfelt vibration and completely captures what it is like to have a moment next to the Northern California coast in June to reflect.
