indeed. it worked well. I mean, I don't get why they cast two different actors. High school students should be capable of doing both parts together. but whatever, directors choice. at least they made it work.
@prestonstanley7736
7 жыл бұрын
Jayden Crowe I shall answer this question although it is a year old. My personal reasoning behind an actor for Jekyll and an actor for Hyde is due to the fact that, although Jekyll and Hyde are one in the same, a High-schooler cannot perform as a 2 different parts at once, switching back and forth. I tried in my bedroom and I'm a junior. All in all, the idea for 2 different actors is excellent. But, i do not know if it's only for that song or for the entire thing. I imagine that if it is for the entire play, the lights will focus on the expression of the person witnessing the transformation as the 2 actors switch.
@tearoses9940
4 жыл бұрын
What could be an interesting idea is if for only this song, they prerecorded Hyde’s singing, and had another actor dressed as Hyde lipsyncing, while Jekyll is the same actor as in the rest of the show. That way it’s not quite as hard on the Jekyll switching back and forth within the song, and you can get a lot more physical/visual dynamics happening in the number (as opposed to him standing there and sharply shifting his body to one side to indicate which one is singing).
@robintowers3223
4 жыл бұрын
@@tearoses9940 Some performances have done prerecordings, unfortunately it doesn't work well because you have to get both the orchestra and the actor to play perfectly in time with a recording live, which invariably is slightly off every time so sounds horrible. Two actors or quick switching by the actor are the only ways to reliably perform the song well live.
@tearoses9940
4 жыл бұрын
Robin Towers It’s been awhile since I made this comment, and what I’ve thought of recently is if they had 2 actors, but Jekyll still sang both parts as Hyde lipsynced. They’d be seen as 2 different people, but would still have the effect that Jekyll is having the confrontation with himself, since he would still be singing Hyde’s words along with his own.

Prepare to hate me for this, but... This was actually really professional! As much as I love the original scene, I love this one too, the "battle" was really well played out (Like how Jekyll threw himself to the floor and Hyde "jumps on" Jekyll, damn for a high school performance 0-0), and everything just works.

Call me crazy but I think the scene works so much better with two actors! Not only is it easier to sing the song that way, but it really highlights just how different Hyde has become from Jekyll, taking on his own identity completely, far advanced beyond Jekyll's escapism in 'Alive'. And the "telekinetic" approach they took here shows the control that Hyde has over Jekyll by this point. Great execution!!
@thecrabmaestro564

I agree totally, as soon as I heard of the play I thought it would work better with different people playing Jekyll and Hyde. Just look at David Hasselhoff's version; It works, but not very well due to the lack of interaction as he plays both characters and stands still for the entire song, only changing posture. (kzitem.info/news/bejne/qWeG356tmIyfd20 -this one) You would have to have some artistic license with the transformation scenes though.

Just one problem: Jekyll and Hyde are supposed to inhabit the body. Therefore it makes more sense to have one actor change from one to the other and back rather than two actors. Also , in order carry it off the way it was done here, you probably need twins.

Pardon my French, but I can't get over just HOW FUCKING COOL THIS IS. I know some people aren't fond of the choice to make Hyde and Jekyll two different actors, since both are supposed to be portrayed by the same person, but this scene definitely makes up for it. Jekyll getting psychically thrown around, the cane flip, Hyde launching himself off the stairs, all the blocking was amazing as well as the timing on the lights. My theater side is going into full on fangirl mode over this. Incredible work guys!

Easily one of the best versions I've ever seen, if not the actual best. It's fantastically acted and extremely well sung...I love the different take on this, it's better than most other interpretations, because it shows Jekyll drinking the potion at the end, and his (temporary) victory over Hyde. The power struggle is much clearer here than in the standard version which just shows Jekyll fading into the background after apparently not having done anything to free himself from Hyde. I also really love the fact that the bit was performed by 2 people, it was super intersting to watch! Don't get me wrong, I ADORE the Broadway version of this song, honestly :) This one just really took me by surprise with how clear and dynamic it was, and with the slightly different interpretation. Good job!

***** Now, now, that's not necessary. Bronies are people, remember. They're animators, artists, story writers, and more. I never understood the stigma attached to the fandom. They're watching a show about ponies, what's the problem? People still love watching stuff like Powerpuff Girls because it was well made, and has aged well thanks to its generally applicable morals that were made with changing times in mind. So what if it has a cutesy art style and is marketable to children? And before you bring up clop, every fandom has it's own variant of porn. But I do admit, when you see a clop picture... It changes you. *shudders*
@aidankeogh9994

***** You could always just... You know... Not watch it? Is that such an absurd idea? What is the Internet, if not forcing one's opinion and views on others? I thought we'd all be fairly tolerant after the bronies have been present on the Internet for five years. If you don't like bronies, that's your call, I'm not going to judge you. The rest of the Internet, however... That could be a different story.
@aidankeogh9994
9 жыл бұрын
***** As the first reply stated, a KZitemr, a brony, called Ink Potts made an animatic of this song, one which many have come to greatly enjoy for it's art style. But then, I'm sure you already know that if you searched for Confrontation. I was simply implying that if you don't like bronies, why associate yourself with them by bickering over such things? Whether it's the show itself, or the fandom, that bothers, you can just ignore them. I doubt bronies are going to go out of their way to track somebody down on the internet just to insult them. Given their checkered history, bronies probably faced greater opposition than any other fandom out there. As such, bronies have been kind of forced- out of a necessity to find some sort of an understanding- become the rather open and welcoming fanbase they are. If you don't like bronies, that's fine. If you don't like MLP, that's also perfectly fine. But there's no need to go out of one's way to start a fight for the sake of proving the superiority of your opinion to someone who could be halfway across the world, for all you know.

First of all GREAT sining voices. Second While I love when it's done with one person as is intended there was some really creative staging in this. It seemed like it was all going inside Jekyll's head and I like that Hyde being stronger throw most of it threw Hyde around the room. Which i guess was to symbolize how his darker side is pushing him around.

Let's all have a moment of silence for the fact that we couldn't have been at the original showing..... This is amazing, I can only guess how the rest of the show went.

I see what the director was trying to convey. Hyde was an apperation to jekyll in this scene. He was fighting with himself sort of like a schizo. In the original musical he is fighting with himself as one person and they origanally planned on prerecording him in the mirror. I personally like all of the versions simply because i like the different aspects of it.

By having two different actors play Jekyll and Hyde you can do really interesting and dynamic stuff, and it works really nicely

I thought this could only work with an animatic like the wonderful video made by S.K. Michels, but DAMN....it really works better this way, with two separate actors playing them because there's a reason why it is called confrontation...you should be able to see 2 separate individuals or identities having an actual confrontation. Another reason why I liked the confrontation scene in the old BBC series called Jekyll (for those who haven't watched, I seriously recommend that you watch it)....Anyways, these 2 made a fantastic job 💕💕💕👍👍

The singing isn't good at all, but I'm in love with the idea of two different actors, and Hyde torturing Jekyll within his mind being showed on stage. The lighting and the effects are really cool.
