Jennifer personifies what a comeback in life is supposed to look like. When life knocks you down, you get back up....and stronger than you were before. 13 slam semis...3 finals, and won them all. Plus the Olympic gold medal and the number one ranking. She seized the big moments extremely well. What I love most about Jennifer is her fearlessness. She wasn't afraid to play anyone, anywhere, anytime. If you were going to hit the ball hard against her, then she would hit it harder. Even in the loses she went down swinging.

I had a hard time in my teenager years and was so inspired by the comback Jennifer in 2001/02. It was a time my country was still considered as the dessert of tennis. I didn't have the chance to play tennis but watched all Australian opens and French opens on TV. I put a lot effort in learning English so that I could understand her interview. In 2014 I finally made the Roland Garros trip. I went to court Susan Lenglen und only saw Kim Clijsters there... Oh this speech makes me cry again. Thank you Jennifer for all you have brought me. I wish you all the best!

I had the pleasure to meet Jennifer Capriati, at the 2000 Australian Open. Back then I was searching for my purpose in life. I had clinically diagnosed depression and anxiety issues.Jennifer,l followed you as a fan,ever since you arrived as a teenager,at your first Australian Open. I kept following you, cheered you on at the Barcelona 92 Olympics, and supported and prayed for you during your dark days off the tennis circuit. I was really happy for you, when you returned and won your 3 singles titles.(2 Australian Opens and 1 French Open).You were courageous, determined and a fighter. I want to thankyou for being an inspiration.

What an awesome Hall of Fame career and an equally great acceptance speech. Good for a Jenn. She’s an All Time Great. Thank you Jennifer for giving us so much great entertainment watching you compete with such excellence and joy. Stay healthy and happy.

This is so beautiful. I miss Jennifer, she had such a hard time, from the press and fans alike. When all said and done, three grandslams and an Olympic Title. That's pretty incredible. I still think Jennifer had one more notch to go with her game had she a full healthy year without problems with her early retirement.

@@datacipher “stocking”? you sound like a perfect human being (apart from the spelling issues). so i guess you are in a position to decide whether a person who went through a hard time can be beautiful & a fighter. we imperfect mortals live by a different measure ~ how flawed people respond to their worst days. it must be nice to live on your cloud of unerring morality. i can only thank you for your generosity in descending to our mortal plane to dispense your great & wise judgment on jennifer capriati’s actions 3 decades ago. how kind of you to take the time to share your subtle ethical insight. humbly, a mere human.
@datacipher
Жыл бұрын
@@sayresrudy2644 lol...um..that's not a spelling issue - obviously. (by the way...you've already lost the "argument" when you resort to pointing at autocorrect issues). Moreover, I never claimed to be perfect - a sad little ad hominem attack and dishonest misrepresentation of what I said. You can go on and on about how my short post is invalid because you misrepresent me as claiming to be perfect. I am not at issue here - not that it would make any sense to argue about my morailty/life/character with a stranger (who knows nothing about me). It is so PATHETIC to see how triggered you are by a stranger making a FACTUAL comment about a celebrity. NO....the issue was not my imaginary claim to perfection - it was about YOUR claim of Capriati's perfection ie. "beauty". The facts are facts - a year after this she will be charged criminally. Finally let me note one little additional dishonest eg. "3 decades ago"....yeah....again...this was one year AFTER her speech. It's clear you're a very emotional person - hysterically so - I urge you to stop blindly worshipping celebrities, and recognize that people are indeed flawed (that's the ONE thing you got right). Making one nice speech doesn't make her "beautiful", actually the empirical evidence suggests she is a highly flawed person who has struggled with many things over her life. Whitewashing it in unicorns and rainbows doesn't help - and doesn't change reality. In fact, pretending she is a angel does her a disservice in eliminating all the struggles she has - and may well continue to have. Take a deep breath, calm down, and GROW UP. People's lives are not summed up in one speech or a meme you saw. YIKES....

Could be mental illness. So many great artists and athletes usually protégés suffer from bipolar and such. Sounds like she may suffer from depression. Also because she was so young playing tennis that’s all she knew her identity so not being able to play probably through her for a loop. She lost her grounding and didn’t know who she was without tennis.
@nogoodnameleft

I sadly think things have gotten worse for her since then. I heard she got severely depressed after her father passed away in 2015 and we have heard nothing from her ever since. I hope we don't read about some horror ending for her in the future. Notice how they inducted her into the Hall of Fame shortly after her 2010 drug relapse. They were not just honoring her for her incredible career but also hoping to make her feel good mentally with that very honorable gesture.
