@Cole_McGill

He has probably never seen them come out of nowhere, crawl up a wall, and completely covering it. As a child I saw an entire walls disappear behind a rising, black sheet of earwigs. Once, I was ontop of something in the yard and it started to turn black from the bottom. I realized what it was and panicked because I knew that meant the grass around me was also full of them. I jump farther than I ever had befor and as I landed, I lunged forward and began to run(because I did land on a fuckton of them). So earwigs may not be a threat but they are terrorists. By supporting earwigs, Jerma has basically become the Saudi Arabia of earwigs.

Entomologist here, let's clear things up. Officially, an insect is an arthropod with 3 distinct body sections (head, thorax, abdomen), 3 pairs of legs, and most adults have two pairs of wings. The word bug technically only refers to insect in the order hemiptera (cicadas, aphids, stink bugs, etc.), but in casual conversation this really doesn't matter. Most entomologists I know tend to use bug and insect interchangeably. Spiders, scorpions, pill bugs, centipedes, snails, etc are not bugs or insects, though some are still considered great interest by entomologists.
@MegaPiguy314

Also, entomophagy is the practice of eating insects, and is very common among many cultures across the world. Eating bugs can have very positive impacts on both the environment and human health. It may sounds gross, but many insects actually taste really good,

The whole honeybee vs wasp thing is really interesting. A lot of wasps serve as pollinators as well. Studies are even starting to reevaluate the good honeybees specifically do for the environment. Yes, they’re pollinators, but they’re only really beneficially to their native range where they aren’t outcompeting the native bees like bumblebees in North America. If saving bees is something you care about, getting a honeybee hive is not the best option. Get a bee hotel instead, they’re super cool.
@Delightedly
Жыл бұрын
I always remind people that honeybees are livestock, and are not what we mean when we say “save the bees”.
@thaDjMauz
Жыл бұрын
And in addition to this, most native bees dont form colonies, usuall live in small holes in the dirt or in wood and often dont really even look like honeybees at all. The way we tend to manage our green space, like removing dead wood, mowing the overgrown grasses and sucking up the cut grass, is really harming these little native bees. Another one is of course our pesticide use

Beginning is infuriating. Puts a dragonfly nymph, a crab, a lobster and a crawfish in "comedy" and then insists a crawfish and a lobster are a lobster and a cooked lobster. Calls Beedrill a Megaman character and ignores the breadbug. My favourite bug is a velvet ant, which is actually a type of wingless wasp. They live usually solitary lives and eat mostly plant matter. They can sting and their sting is rated as one of the most painful of any bug (despite having very little venom it's a painful neurotoxin and their stingers are barbed), and are sometimes called things like "cattle killer." They're named for the soft, dense, downy fuzz that covers their body, and looks like velvet because it's much denser than bee fuzz; this comes in vibrant colours, most often red, orange, yellow or white. The ones where I grew up were red and black. Anyway, they are reluctant to sting (apparently it hurts the bug or something, though it doesn't kill them like it does bees) and first chirp as a warning if they sense danger, like a tiny dog barking at a threat. The males do have wings and fly but don't have stingers, and when they mate the males will carry the females up into the air to copulate. Also I died at "What a remarkable creature. This thing can produce LIGHT out of its ANUS. Nobody else can do that, no other monster on Earth can do that." Ticks look cool and can be used in medicine when medical supply availability is poor, though for various reasons the much grosser leeches are preferred for most medical purposes. I'd put them in C, but still, I could see someone putting them higher.

he also took one look at the Tardigrade, assumed it was a Walrus and then put it in the comedy tier without a second thought. if he knew what they were and what they could do, he would have put them in A or even S. Tardigrades are the smallest animal on earth, so much so that you need a microscope to look at them. no amount of pressure can squash them, they can survive for 30 years without food or water, can live comfortably in temperatures ranging -454F to 302F, can survive radiation 100x the lethal dose of humans and can even survive in the vacuum of space. they are legitimately unkillable and are strong enough to survive any cosmic disaster that could hit earth (besides the sun exploding, of course).
