Dupont is like Byron Kelleher with Dan Carter's ambidexterity and Fourie du Preez's game management. It does help though that he has a monster pack in front of him, similar to what Kelleher and Carter had in the mid 2000s (against most opposition).

I remember 2015 as a French supporter I was embarrassed by the attitude of some of our players on the field. It is often the smaller player (Parra exemplary) that shows the biggest heart and the largest body frames who absolutely give up (Picamoles was a huge disappointment) In 2011 I thought we were completely hard down by Craig Joubert who just would not referee the breakdowns in an even manner and the All Blacks really got away with murder. France was superior in that final. Incidentally, we have seen a fair bit of that going on against Ireland this year in the rucks, players laying on the ground slowing down the ball, players diving on top feet off the ground and still competing, all under the eyes of the ref and yet nothing. I think this is going to be a point of discussion again this year. I know players don't use it as an excuse but for supporters it is hard to swallow because everything is on replay these days (except foot in touch). But 2015 was a disaster for us French and a master class of rugby by the ABs, it felt like les bleus did not want to be there and were not even trying. Even the most experienced players were just not showing the right attitude. Picamoles, Pape all these guys should have probably retired long before the World Cup. I think everybody will remember Dan Carter shoving Pascal Pape one handed with such ease it was like Pape was made of cotton wool. The guy was a 120kgs lock. The difference in velocity was light years apart. Overall, I really look forward to this year's WC but somehow... I still have a niggly feeling this is not going to be our year. Some players look awfully tired to me. At least I know the players will give it all this time around. I am just concerned we keep making the same mistakes with long excruciating physical prep and no rest at all between competitions. French players had 15 days to rest between the final of the Top 14 and the start of a grueling prep. Our prep guy Giroud has extensive knowledge and experience but he comes from a rugby league and NFL background. That's where his prep comes from. The NFL is 17 games a season for 60 minutes a game which is hardly effective with all the pauses between. The Top 14 is 26 games a season on top of which comes the two European Cups (Champions and Challenge) in which French clubs have been involved to the Final every year (Toulouse, La Rochelle, Lyon, Toulon all winners) and on top of which comes the 6 Nations and international tours and friendlies. We are talking seasons at 35-40 games with a 2 weeks break in between. You cannot prep Top 14 players like you would prep NFL players, these are two different Worlds. The Boks and the Blacks in comparison do a lot more resting and as result you rarely see their players getting injured for 6 to 12 months period straight with relapse that can last another 12 months. Picture this: Arthur Vincent has not been on a rugby field for 2 years... only in French rugby do you see that happening so I am not super confident we will have the gas and an injury free World Cup to lift the Webb Ellis. We are not on par with franchise rugby and I am not entirely sure we will ever be. Skills, fitness, power, aggression, organization, discipline, we now tick all the boxes of professional rugby. All but one: RESTING / RECUPERATION. Olivier Magne was saying if we do not win it this year, we will never win it. I hope he is wrong because right now I feel with the injuries of Ntamack and Baille... it just gives me a bad feeling of déjà vu.
@snowmotion9921
Жыл бұрын
Picamoles was actually one of the only players who stood out in 2015... The national coaching team was horrendous for many many years : Lièvremont, Ntamack, Retière, Saint-André, Lagisquet... The only one who proved to be a good coach afterwards is Yannick Bru, all the others had no idea about the standards of international rugby so I wouldn't fully blame the players for the 2015 fiasco. On Thibault Giroud you couldn't be further from the reality. He's been working with rugby teams for 20 years now, he's had experiences in different sports as an athlete but as a trainer he's been working in rugby his whole professionnal life. In 2019 he revolutionized the standards of the national team, we were lightyears away from the international fitness standards and his work just before the 2019 RWC almost brought us to a semi final. So I don't know if the prep will pay out for this coming world cup but I know that his work have been acclaimed everywhere he went so I absolutely don't worry about it I think he's been one of the most important assest for France those last 4 years.

There was nothing to argue with, they were clinical, rampant and just perfect in all compartments of the game.

Ireland won in Dublin, France in Paris. The Boks tests were so tight last year with both FR and Ire, Boks without Pollard and Am. The AB's looking more fierce than any time since 2015. It is so hard to call. All 4 can beat any of the others. France has the edge at home over Ireland but playing away is in the Boks' and AB' DNA. I think Fr and NZ have the best depth. I have two questions I would love you to ask an All Black: 1) In the 2019 World Cup game against South Africa, Aaron Smith didn't give the fastest ball possible. I noticed he often rolled/spun the ball at the base of the ruck about three times before passing. What was the thinking behind that? I wondered if it was to let the defence set so they could practice against a set defence or if he was trying to slow the game down to reduce the number of collisions and therefore the chances of injury. I've been curious for four years... 2) Do any of the coaches or players watch Squidge Rugby and do they get any useful insights from it? Are his analyses surprisingly accurate or does he tend to overthink things?

@@richardscanlan3419 I hear you. France are absolutely brilliant and peaking at the right time. I’ve got a sinking feeling that France will do what they have done with us at previous world cups. They keep their superstars off the team who play us in pool play. We win. Convincingly. The pressure is then off them. They make the final (through what some would say, may be an easier path to the final) and there is no pressure in the final. Only excitement and opportunity. They certainly have a bone to pick with us, losing closely in many world cups to us and other teams (especially 2011). That being said, my real hope is that referees don’t become the stars/villains of this World Cup. We know Wayne Barnes loves the big stage and his whistle is his tiara/dagger. If DuPont gets injured, we’ve got more a chance of a look in at final time. Other than that, yes my money is on France for this World Cup, yet as I mentioned, I’ll not put a wager on until after the opener. If NZ win by less than 19, I’ll likely be putting money on France

As a french person and supporter, I do not really understand this hype regarding France. Yes they are good and in a good form but all of this hype comes from their 2021/2022 performances which are for me a bit overrated. Yes they had beaten every top tier nations those years but I think that no evidence of true dominance in their games had been shown. First of all, let's remind us that SH nations and players played much less games than in NH during Covid-19, so it plays an important role regarding the overall performance in 2021 from SH nations. Against the ABs, the 40-25 score doesn't reflect the reality or "dominance" as the blacks came back very strong 27-25, the momentum changed only due to an interception. Against SA, the win is made in the last minutes with a try which could have been refused tbh. In the last 6 nations, France suffered against Italy, lose against Ireland by 12 and the result against Scotland doesn't represent the performance again. So what I'm trying to say is France do have a good and beautiful team for RWC, they play a beautiful rugby for sure, but for me, they are not favorite, I would place them 4th or 3rd in equality with Ireland.

France have home advantage which is more important as the tournament progresses. This is the best opportunity they have had since 2007
