This shit was good. The brilliance of Lawler as a worker was his selling and timing. He gave weight to everything that happened in the match. Of course, today, it would be looked down on because nobody did a flip.

You can see where ECW got some of its ideas. Remember, many on its roster where previously in Memphis, including Paul E, Eddie Gilbert, Sandman, Sabu, RVD, New Jack, and many others, including Steve Austin.

What fucked ECW up (other than Paul Heyman & their finances) was the portion of the roster that didn’t know how to work cosplaying as New Jack, Mick Foley, & Terry Funk. Whereas at least New Jack started the whole dive thing as a means of getting over (when Paul E. Was mad at him), guys that completely couldn’t work would cover up their technical/psychological weaknesses with being “hardcore” with weapons.

Exactly ,me too. I lived, and still do just south of Memphis. This stuff was great. I'd say we watched this every Saturday for a good 10 years. 76-86 atleast . Saturday mornings were TV5 Championship Wrestling. Lance Russell and Dave Brown were fantastic.

I think the grainy VHS look makes it even better ! Even watching it back then on TV wasn't the best quality . While I would love to see this remastered in HD , something about this just feels right to me . Memphis is what made me a lifelong fan of wrestling along with NWA and WCCW . Hell , there wasn't any wrestling I didn't watch and at least like in the 80s !! LOL

Banana Nose😊😊. Jerry Lawlers nick name for Lance. This was fantastic television for us in the 70s and 80s. We hardly ever missed a Saturday on WMCTV 5. Lance Russell and Dave Brown were a perfect team. Jimmy Hart Jerry Lawler based conflicts were golden. Dundee was always a tough guy and i always enjoyed these Lawler vs Dundee matches.

Lawler was a great "heel " , but l find that he belittles his work as a " baby face " when he said that he was " a heel at heart" . I enjoy him both ways. I remember when he gave an interview promoting one of his matches with Nick Bockwinkel for the AWA title when he caught Lance Russell looking at his watch while he was talking, and said " why are you looking at your watch?, You, goof. People want to know what l'm going to do to Bockwinkel" , and Russell"s expression was like " boy, l walked into that one ". He was a baby face when he convinced Flair to give him a shot at the NWA heavyweight title . Lawler is one of the greatest promos in the history of pro wrestling.
