What a great question. I lived in LA at the time and was involved in the TV production business, albeit from the equipment angle, not the talent, nor the production. I did lots of business in Studio City right near Radford Studios (where much of Seinfeld was shot) and plenty around the Paramount lot in Hollywood, on Melrose. Though I didn't sell gear to the Seinfeld show, I sold gear to and worked with plenty of folks involved in the TV shows of the time. There were literally millions of people involved with shooting music videos and every one of them just had to buy $50K or $100K worth of gear. Big deal? Yeah it was. Because they had the money and spent the money. All the production power that gear had can be bought for $2500 today or in some cases done on an iphone. For almost free. I was in a lucky spot, at a lucky time, and Hollywood woop de doo was exciting and dynamic. I can't tell you how it was in Ohio. To answer your question, yeah, It was a special time, kind of the early-mid-80's to the mid-late-90's; I will tell you that at least in my business, money was massively easier to come by and flowed much more easily than I find today. Computers were astronomically expensive (early 386 PCs were $6K **but people must have had the money to buy them, because buy them they did**. I think I had the sense that it was a special time but...I kind of thought it would go on forever. It was also a sort of special time because the country was coming out of the 70's which was quite a dreary time except for the drugs.

The oversized clothes were a contrast/rejection of the tight clothes and small shorts of the 70s and 80s etc.

this material is an example of why jerry belongs up there with the likes of George carlin. a true comedy legend. the airplane stuff actually sounds very much like something carlin would say.

Leno was born in 1950. He started going grey in his late 30's. Some people are genetically disposed for greying early, like Leno and Johnny Carson. Carson colored his hair until he was in his mid-40's, but Leno has said that he never colored his hair.

Jay and Jerry have had a friendly but competitive relationship since their days as LA club comedians in the late 1970's. They were two of the original "observational" stand-up comedians of the 1980's.
