08004820 - Well we can assume in many cases that the person will have already been wearing the shoes for hours so you could still potentially have that problem. But yes, if its say a 5 hour flight, Much better they take them off straight away than wait 4 more hours and then take them off. But if it is the last leg of a very long journey and the flight is only an hour and you've had your shoes on constantly, then maybe do everyone a favour and keep them on just 2 more hours.

Unless I'm at the beach, I am not at all okay with seeing stranger's bare toes. Feet are gross, including my own haha. Even in the middle of summer, if I'm going to the mall or something, I'm putting on socks and sneakers, not flip flops. If I was going to be spending most of my time outside without walking a ton, then I would. Airplane? Keep your clothes on, SHOES INCLUDED PLEASE! We're already in a pressurized tube, circulating our own cough infested air, traveling at 500 miles per hour. If I have to deal with my own slight discomfort for the sake of other people, no one else really has any excuse, besides being selfish and disgusting.

The DH is not baseball. But having a DH in one league and no DH in the other league _is_ baseball. It would not be baseball to argue that rules must be uniform in both leagues, just as it would not be baseball to make all fields the same dimensions and eliminate ground rules. Idiosyncrasy is the essence of charm, and charm is what baseball is all about.

It’s pretty standard for talk show hosts to get a list of questions from comedians (or truthfully any type of guest) before going on the air so that the host can “set up” the comedian to do his latest stuff. You didn’t notice the technique that much when it was just Johnny Carson.... there were no other talk shows competing with him on different networks, but when Letterman and the others came on the scene, you begin to see this because its basically the same pre-provided questions. And most talk show hosts are not great comedians unless they are the few that are in the late night slots, which makes the questioning seem spontaneous. The originality comes from writing the comedy bit in the first place,not in delivering it over and over to different hosts as you so aptly point out.
@tubbytuba1

So what!!?? Aren't you ever asked a question for which you have a "standard" answer...one that reflects how you feel? Does Jerry have to "retire" his response to the emoticon thing after first being asked. Jerry's as big a baseball fan as he is, yet he doesn't "notice when people bat left or right"? I mean, I can understand him having strong opinions on what he'd do if he was commissioner (I think he's way off on instant replay and way on on the DH), but the not even noticing which way they bat... that's kinda weird. I've never heard that stated before.

Jerry should catch a flight to Japan. Lots of people take off their shoes. Just like they take off their shoes in their homes. Frankly, I think Jerry's got it backwards in his ethnocentric POV. Civility is about taking off the shoes in certain contexts because of hygiene and human health. In Japanese high schools, students are required to wear slippers to class. Maybe that would be the compromise that would keep Jerry's interlocutor from getting angry. "Here's a pair of slippers for you. Gift!"

lettersfromhelen His democracy reasoning was off, but overall I do agree the DH should go away. As a fan of an NL team, the biggest part of having the pitcher in the lineup is that there's a lot more strategy needed later in the game when it comes time to decide when to pull him and have a bench guy take their place. It's just more interesting than having a dude whose only job it is to swing a bat then go back to the bench and munch on sunflower seeds all night.
