Students from École Dansereau Meadows School, École J.E. Lapointe School, and Caledonia Park School were treated to an inspirational message on, June 10, from Canadian actor, former athlete, and activist - Jesse Lipscombe.
Jesse talked about an awkward moment on a film set that led to his founding of the “Make It Awkward” movement. This movement teaches people how to make it awesome by shutting down micro-aggressions, such as intentional or unintentional comments that convey negative attitudes toward those of different races, cultures, beliefs, or genders - by making it awkward.
“Change is never easy and being a part of it will often feel uncomfortable,” said Jesse. “My idea is for every person to use their privilege as a superpower to help those around them feel safe and included.”
At the end of the presentation, students lined up to ask many great questions like “What should you do if you see someone being bullied?”, “What has been the hardest thing you have had to overcome?”. Jesse took time to answer each student and promised to answer any further questions on his various social media channels.
