I liked Cata, it was "different" but also brought more challenge back to the game. Those heroics were pretty rough. I also like what it looks like modern could be, but let's be real, Metzen could sell water to a drowned fish. So it will really depend on how they do it. But it could be a pseudo world revamp "going back to" old places with new stories.

Many of us young'uns (however young as 26 is xD) never played WoW earlier in life, so even stuff like Cata is pretty old. It's been 13 years after all. I understand Jesse's confusion, for him, Cata was when he as an adult built his YT channel, but to some of us, it is both old yet unfamiliar. I have already seen many videos of even classic youtubers like WilliE say that Cata wasn't really that bad, so interest seems to be there. Also, Wotlk already brought many gameplay and design changes, so the "real" classic crowd wants vanilla more than anything, it seems. HC, Seasons and Era severs are for them.
@fang_xianfu
11 ай бұрын
@@MaMastoast yeah, I think strategically Cata was a bad idea if they weren't going to keep refreshing the world regularly. If that wasn't their strategy they never should've done it to begin with. I did like the heroics and the way the endgame started out though, it was very different to the mindless farming in WoLK heroics and was more similar to mythic today. I think if they had known then what they know now there would've been some kind of mythic challenge mode as hard as the Cata heroics and then some baseline mindless loot farming mode as well.

I mean, there was a vocal minority that hated every change. I remember when badge gear was first introduced in BC, there were a lot of people who were absolutely livid that people could get raid-tier loot without raiding. And yeah, Wrath's further pivot toward more casual gamers absolutely was polarizing. However, it was also the peak of WoW's popularity. The difference with Cataclysm is that much of its controversy came from how unfinished it all felt. Whether it was half-finished storylines, zones that varied wildly in quality, or a completely botched ending, it promised so much and failed to deliver on much of it. It honestly feels crazy to me that Blizzard is going to actually bank on Cataclysm nostalgia, considering just how many players quit specifically because of that expansion. The only people I see that appealing to are those that started their journey with Cataclysm. For anyone else, it's just going to dredge up the same feelings of resentment.

Trying to think how they could do that. Maybe added another difficulty that's catered to more casual/social players? While DF was alright, I still ended up leaving that expac at the halfway mark, simply because it felt too calm of an expac and a safe testing of the waters. I might come back for the War Within expac, but I dunno, I'm not really up for more of the same as the last expect kinda ideal (especially when it's been shown that the new expac is literally reusing DF assets).

23:36 To be fair, this is just Jesse misunderstanding. No one is "spending money on stuff", that screen is showing the rewards you get for various PvP ranks. So I get the skepticism, and I get why someone (myself included) wouldn't like a mobile game, but when asking "Who is this for?", I think the answer is quite simple: Young people. Jesse says it several times in the video: He's old. He doesn't get young people - I don't either - but if a 12-year-old sees the new WoW cinematic, they probably won't get hooked, but if they get funneled in through a mobile game, they might eventually try something like WoW or Hearthstone. A common complaint has been "Why hasn't Blizzard done more with the Warcraft IP?", but when they then expand the available media to younger generations, the complaint is "Noo, this isn't for me, expand it but not in THIS way!" So while this mobile game ain't for me, I am all for the Warcraft IP broadening. Be it through WoW, Hearthstone, Rumble, Hardcore, a movie, a TV series, a book, a children's cartoon, whatever. Gimme more - even if I don't play it. Don't turn it into StarCraft and let the IP rot in a single game.

I left WoW quite a few years ago but seeing my absolute favourite character Anduin back and this saga journey supposedly tying up the loose ends, I must say I'm quite intrigued. I might give it a chance but I'd like to see more details first. Also Jesse wth, your predictions were so on point. XD Edit: Also finally THE SWORD.

I don't think people so much changed their minds (at least people my age - 40s). But this was my son's first expansion and he was 13 or 14 and is in his late 20s now. Those kids loved cata and they aren't kids anymore. Guessing those folks gave a lot of feedback.

They really underhyped the Season of Discovery annoucement, but in the deep dive they said, without any room for misinterpretation, that they will slowly release new level caps after 25, each with new raids (teased Gnomeregan, Scarlet Crusade and Karazhan Crypts raids), and being very open about introducing old cut and unimplemented content ideas (essentially emerald dream, hellfire penninsula etc.) once we reach the level cap again. It's by all definitions the beginning of Classic+, but in a fun way that doesn't feel like pointless waiting.

I don't know, man... I've been on this ride too many times before. Metzen's charismatic as hell, the animated custcenes (Thrall/Anduin) are always amazingly well-done, but how many times have we done this dance? Blizz is great on hype, but their delivery in recent years has not lived up to it, and I doubt the community has gotten noticeably less toxic since Shadowlands. I'm watching and hoping, but I don't know if I want to come back. People's excitement for Dragonflight faded after a couple of months - will this be any different?

Notice he said the THIRD part, not the FINAL part. So they are leaving it open to do four or even five parts.

Had a similar reaction to you, Jesse. Just... was on the fence and then bam. They got me. I really hope Anduin goes through hell in these expansions. Guy needs a character arc. His dad dying is just not enough.

The message is about what the devs team went through and now they are ready move on for a new future. I can clearly see references to Metzen and the company having to struggle too but they are back in the game!!

23:45 it also looks to have an Energy system so that line about always having something to do when you open the game has the caveat of as long as you have the energy left to play it if not you better spend some gems to get a refresh.

2:30 - Face Off, a competition reality show on SyFy from 2011 to 2018, where competitors would have to make film-quality prosthetics and makeup to create characters for a sci-fi, horror, or fantasy theme each week. There was quite a few gaming related episodes, they did Resident Evil, Dishonored, Warcraft, and others.

This is the first time I've felt excited about WoW since Legion. I'm not confident they'll pull it off because of the last couple of expansions, but I really hope they do. I want a reason to play/enjoy WoW again. As for Classic--I actually liked Cataclysm a lot but I'm more intrigued by the Season of Discovery concept in Vanilla. I'm curious how wild the builds can get.

My favorite part of BlizzCon was Chris Metzen, the orignal writer that everyone props up as the person who made Warcraft "a man's game where big strong men went to kill other men" directly targeted those people with an emotional cinematic. Asmongold got hardcore vibe-checked.
