Oops, I just got to the portion of your video when you invoke the Transfiguration.... The Transfiguration I understand that instructing Peter, James and John not to tell anyone about his (transfiguration) vision (the manifestation of his glory) until after the Son of Man rises from the dead is not perfectly synonymous with the keeping of his Messianic identity a secret, but it is a variation on that theme.

Not in Missouri Synod Lutheran, we say the Apostles Creed, the Niacin Creed. I am a Missouri Synod Lutheran, I also say the Rosary. In fact my Husband got me the Rosary from Lourdes. The lady of Lourdes, St Bernadette, has been close to my heart since childhood. I watch you and like your views and videos. However, I can not agree with your opinion on Lutheran belief. Remember when Martin Luther was against purchasing forgiveness. I also follow Judaism as I believe you can not be a Christian without following Judaism. Our Lord was a Jew he never waivered from our Father's laws and Prophets.

Luther did not only object to “selling” indulgences, but numerous other grievances such as priestly celibacy and the dogma of the Virgin Mary! Luther was a heretic and a perverter of the truth.
@Marcia-fw3wz
Жыл бұрын
Martin Luther was against purchasing indulgences, not forgiveness. The Catholic Church is against it also. The one true Church that Jesus founded is the fulfillment of the Old Covenant, therefore the Church we belong to is rooted in Judaism, but it's the New Covenant, not Jewish. I became a Catholic 64 years ago as a teenager and have had many years to explore the various Protestant beliefs, so I know what Lutherans believe. Simply engaging in Catholic practices and reciting the Creeds doesn't make one a Catholic any more than following Judaism makes one a Jew. If you're interested, you need to do more research on the traditional doctrines of the 2000 year old Church that Jesus instituted, as found in the Scriptures, the writings of the early Church fathers, and the traditional catechisms, but avoid the modernist views. I prefer to belong to the true Church founded by Jesus Christ, rather than those that started 500 years ago by individuals who wanted to propagate their own views, which have now escalated into more than 40,000 denomations with various heretical beliefs. There can be only one Truth. Finally, Our Lady of Lourdes is the Blessed Virgin Mary who appeared to St. Bernadette.

To call a Lutheran a heretic is offensive. Our Lord built Christianity as his Church. Not Catholic, Lutheran, Methodist, Protestant, Presbyterian, or Brethern. The Church, the Temple is on every man's and womans heart. Not a building. The Laws on written on the Heart. Keep in mind that the Catholic Church was built upon a Roman emperor who wanted to save his butt from the Hunns and converted to Christianity. Also, keep in mind that when Luther left the Catholic Church, the Papa at the time had carnal indulges with women. As many other Papas. Now I am going to ruffle feathers, whose to say that the Apostles Scriptures were accurately translated from Aramaic, Greek, or Hebrew. Many books existed, and the Catholic hierarchy only put out what they wanted to be known. Why else was the Church against transcribing in other languages. Our Lord told his disciples to spread the word. Without question, our Lord was 32 when he bore our sins. In Judaism, he would have been long married, our Blessed Lady was married, a good wife to Jospeh, do you really think she had no children with her espoused husband. Keep in mind the Catholic Church in that Era wanted and yielded power. Hence, the Inquisitions. Was that really what our Lord would want of his Church. Peter, his apostle, would not. Hereicy is following Satan, we as Christians love each other as our Lord Loved us. We do not condemn one another for our ways of Loving our Lord and Heavenly Father. Whether Lutheran, Catholic, Protestant, et., al. Our Lord is not an institution, a building.

I think there are a couple of other secrets. One, when the disciples ask Him when the end of the world will happen. He tells them that the times and seasons are not for them (and us) to know and that the Father has reserved that to Himself by His own authority. The other secret was that Judas was the betrayer. Yes, He gave clues regarding who it was but He never names Judas explicitly. It wasn't until He was arrested that the disciples realized who the traitor was.

I think the reason is simple. It must not be that complicated because the disciples are not all educated. Christ always talked simple, used simple stories for teaching. What I mean is that . . .. the reason for charging them not to tell is . . . because the time is not due yet. If all people know that he is Christ . . . perhaps he would be arrested too early without completing his ministry enough. He preached for 3 years and then, really, his time came for him to be crucified.

Point being that there are roughly 200 denominations some offshoots sure but what is wrong with like 'the Biblical Narrative, the Word of God, salvation, submitting and surrendering, understanding Jesus died for all who believe in him, born-again-spirit-filled Christianity?' That is me, I read commentaries by the bucket load, new old, use what I can get to transliterate the Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic to my native language. I listened carefully to what Taylor said regarding the fact that the apostles were sent out to tell the people about Jesus and to tell them to obey His commands. Jesus was still alive at that point so the Law of Moses Covenant was still applicable. It wasn't till Jesus' death that the New Covenant came into being. This was the Covenant of grace. We are then to be led by the Holy Spirit (the Spirit, not the letter of the Law).

Dr. Marshall, I don't disagree with your overall theme, but I think the "Messianic Secret" theory is not based on just the three instances you mention but also Our Lord's silencing of demons who are revealing his identity in Mark 1:21-28, 1:29-34, and 3:7-12. While that only brings it to six times (three to humans and three to demons), that does start to become a significant number in a harmony of the Gospels. If you do a follow-up to this video, I'd like if you could address those three times when Our Savior speaks to demons and not just men. It may be as simple as being the answer you have already given since they are in the beginning of Mark's Gospel.

What you mentioned about paul and the Lutherans was interesting. I’ve been thinking for a while now that it seems Protestants love paul so much that they’ll basically ridicule Peter and disregard him and the other apostles. While Catholics tend to favor Peter (obviously) but still hold paul in high regards and revere him just as well. Ironically paul was the one chastising groups because it seemed some worshipped him, others Peter, others Apollos, yet it has been seeming to me, that’s basically what Protestants do without realizing it.

But there was one time when he said to tell people, when he cast the demons out of the man into the swine. The man wanted to follow him but he said to go home and tell everyone what God had done for him. But also here the people begged Jesus to leave them. So they weren’t going to swarm him if this dude went and told everyone. I think Jesus often told people not to say anything because he didn’t want to be swarmed. And maybe he told the disciples not to tell people he was the Christ because he didn’t want any more persecution at the time. Jesus was just a human, wanting peace. He wanted to work very hard, but he wanted to do it in peace.

I am still a Protestant but about to convert. The fact is that most Lutheran theologists will agree with you! And it is super annoying that you always have to dig up stupid ideas of some Lutherans when you could have found just as many stupid Catholics disagreeing with what you say. What you need to understand is that Martin Luther was 100% correct regarding his statements that got him excommunicated. So that was all on the corruption of the Catholic Church at that time. Lutherans have the exact same Apostolic confession and pray the same Our Father.
