You would get fewer results adding a topic to your Google Jesus search, not more(as you implied).

You say you've never seen a modern faith healer demonstrate power over nature, but you haven't seen Jesus do it either...

You're a good teacher but why do baptists have to continually beat their baptizo drum? And where in the old testament did any priest baptize by immersion?

FYI I am not a Baptist. I focus on baptism because the New Testament mentions it often and always in connection with salvation. In the Old Testament baptism per se is not mentioned but God gave the priests and people numerous instructions involving water as a purification rite. - MM

Well Baptistic then. Also, in one of these lessons, you said the Old Testament saints did not have the indwelling Holy Spirit. (Or it didn't stay with them anyway..) I think this would be a dispensational belief, but how could anyone in the OT have the ability to believe God without the indwelling H.S.?? Like Adam and Eve believing God's promise of a Savior; Noah, a righteous man; Job, a righteous man; Abraham, who believed God and was declared righteous (i.e. righteous=saved); Jacob, chosen by God; Rahab believed in God and obeyed Him; , David, a man after God's own heart; the prophets like Daniel; and, John the Baptist, who was filled with the HS in his mother's womb (still OT). I think this belief you hold goes against Scripture.

The “indwelling” of the Holy Spirit was only available in the New Testament. Peter quotes Joel in his Pentecost sermon saying that what was happening was a promise from the OT. In Acts 2:38 at the culmination of his sermon he exhorts the people to, “..repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” This is why I say that in the Old Testament only a few people like judges, prophets and some kings like David received the Spirit for a time in order to fulfill their ministries, however, the permanent indwelling of the Spirit in the believer was only something that would take place when the Messiah would come. Jesus makes this promise in John 16:13. As far as having to possess or be influenced by the Spirit in order to initially believe is a Calvinistic idea to which I do not subscribe because I believe it is not supported by the New Testament. - MM

Great lesson, I just don't agree with Baptism as part of your salvation. It Faith plus NOTHING! Now, that faith will manifest in baptism, in getting together with other brothers and sisters, and in many more ways. But only for rewards, not Salvation.

Yes, we are saved by a system of faith, not works, this is correct. However, according to the New Testament (Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 22:16; Romans 6:3-4) to cite only a few of the passages on the subject, baptism is how a believer in Jesus initially expresses his/her faith. Along with confessing the name of Jesus (Matt. 10:32), repenting of one’s sins (Luke 13:5), baptism is part of the process of salvation that every believer goes through. - MM
